Beautiful with attention to detail great job . At some point an oscillating drum sander with tilt table might make life sanding those rockers easier

Yes! I absolutely agree. I’m also thinking about a wide belt oscillating sander as well. Thanks for watching. Brett

love your videos ....well done ... any tips on getting the rocker and leg spacings correct ... I assume you adjust the cross stringer ??

@@TimBeningfield Thank you! To answer your question… since I’m using the Plans I purchased from The Rocking Horse Shop 20 +yrs ago, the horses usually fall into place, but once in awhile I’ll have to make small adjustments. That’s why I recommend leaving the end turnings off the rockers until the horse is properly fitted. It gives you a little “wiggle” room to adjust. This little doll horse I’m making in the new series, I did have to cut a bit off the cross stringers ( what I call stretchers) Because the horses legs were not spaced out enough. It works, but the next one I make, I’ll be sure to make the adjustments on the bottom body block before I attach the legs. Cheers, Brett

Is there an angle on the bows when you screw them or together so they bow making them narrower at the ends?

The bows, crosspieces and the two end turnings are all cut at 10 degrees. That’s the magic number. Hope this helps. Brett

Great job!! I am making a rocking horse for my niece and was really struggling how to build these. I’m only ten minutes in as I write this comment-what is the “why” behind the 10 degree angle? I had a rocking horse growing up and my parents mentioned it would always scoot forward, so that it was basically unusable, and I noticed that it’s cut perfectly flat so that the two legs run perpendicular from the floor, not sure if that’s related to the issue of not staying put? Anyways, great job, I’ll get back to watching 👨🔬👨💻🪚

The 10 degree is there so that the entire rocker will sit flat on the floor. So you are correct in your assumption. Also, ( I’m no expert on these believe me, I just like building stuff! Lol ) my opinion is that the early builders of these we’re working out how to make these more stable. That’s why the Legs are splayed out and the rockers are tapered. Plus they aesthetically pleasing to look at. Unfortunately, these will still walk across the floor. Anything on rockers will walk. That’s why the glider or “safety stand” was developed. It was an American that invented it. Not only did it take up less space but it stayed put. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes and If I can answer anything else, please let me know. Thanks for watching. Brett

What angle do you cut the bow rockers ?
@Greenfieldwoodworks Жыл бұрын
It’s a 10 degree angle.

Sorry I wasn’t clear about it. When you cut the middle where you put the two pieces together you moved your miter saw. What degree do you use? Thanks

I believe your asking about what I call the stretchers. The two pieces that connect both sides of the rockers together. Those are also cut at 10degrees.
