Why is it important to have good soil structure? Because it leads to oxygen-rich conditions that suppress most disease-causing organisms. It also prevents erosion, reduces irrigation needs, and enables plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil profile.
The microorganisms in a balanced Soil Food Web generate sticky compounds that adhere to the surfaces of soil particles. These “glues” allow the particles to aggregate, which creates open spaces in the soil. Larger soil organisms like earthworms move through the soil creating passages.
The benefits of a well structured soil include: better infiltration in clay soils, increased water holding capacity in sandy soils, reduced soil erosion and run-off, aerobic conditions in the soil which suppress disease causing organisms etc.

Wow these videos are amazing. I learn more even from this. I really want to learn how to get rid of compaction layers. Do you have to do multiple runs of deep ripping with clay, or is a biological process through and through? I figured key line might accelerate it. I love Permaculture

@@soilfoodwebschool That's what I figured, but what about the hard pan underneath the tilling or the deep layers 3-10 feet below the surface is what I was curious about. Is there anyway to develop soil the way that deep key line rips do by delivering oxygen down deep? Was just curious if it's just biology and time that gets that deep (8-10 feet) or if there is something we can do at the start such as tilling.

🛑 i know this is a old vid... but are you still in the soil biz? Im working with a company that is doing a very similar thing to help make proper soil structure for farming. I think it could have other benefits to many different folks around the world.

We have studys to show how it works... but do far its only used in the farm fields. But think how cool it woukd be if we could all have properly structured soil. We could save money snd live in a better environment. 👍🤠
