qdc your builds are top notch, your videos are silent and satisfying to watch. I know your model kit builds doesn't have that much weathering but that's ok, the way you paint and put weathering on your tanks is enough to call you a skilled builder. Please continue building model kits, i hope you post latest builds!

I've built this same kit by Tamiya and found it to be one of the easiest kits to assemble. Reason being it was very well designed and very precision in its fit and detail. One of my favorite British tanks! I painted it in the camo design from the box and it turned out wonderful.

Welcome to this hobby 😃😃. Since you're new to this hobby, you will meet a lot of different model kit builders with different attitudes and approaches to building a model kit. But no matter what style you decide to build and paint your model, the most important thing is to enjoy it. You will find that this hobby will last a lifetime if you truly enjoy it. Take care and again, welcome to this hobby. 😃😃

Quite a nice build and video. For such an old kit it is a fun kit to build and looks like the Chieftain Mk.3 The biggest difference between a Mk.3 and a Mk.5 is the Loader's split hatch on top of the turret. On the Mk.3 the hatch is at an angle as on this kit whereas on the Mk.5 that hatch is straight. I also used Tamiya Extra Thin liquid cement to add cast texture to the turret and glacis. I brush the liquid cement on a small area then use a short stiff bristle brush to stipple it. The Chieftain NATO Black and NATO Green camouflage paint in real life had hard edges not feathered. I mask off the dark colour and then paint the camouflage. Silly Putty makes a fantastic masking material. Your videos are most certainly encouraging.

Always a pleasure to watch a new video of yours Colin, have to mention though, that British Camo is Green and Matt Black. There are Desert Camos and such, but whenever you see the British Army out and about, it's always the British Green and Matt Black. Spent 22 years of my life with the British Army, and even had to paint quite a few Scorpions, Stallwarts, Trucks and Landies myself, so got pretty tired of always seeing it ;) Great job on the Chieftain, one of my favourit British Tanks !.
@qdc748a7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I didn't know it was actually black. I simply followed Tamiya's instructions on the paint. You must be proud serving your country for such a long time! :)
@siras23 жыл бұрын
Yep, 22 years British Army service here too. You're 100% correct and whilst the colours here might look ok, they're not right. My only other quibble is the bent-back antenna - I've NEVER seen this on a British tank - vhf antennas don't function correctly unless they're vertical and straight.

It would have to be very close to penetrate an M1A2 Tusk II. Highly unlikely. Love the Britts though, very happy to have them as our oldest and closest allie. Had a marine friend that worked with British Royal marines and he said them are extremely high pace and are trained better in small unit tactics than us.

As an old Cheiftain gnr,I doubt that the 120 as fitted on this mark would penetrate an M1,even with the sabot we had

I know this is an old video but I’m going to comment anyways. I was inspired by your build and got a tamiya chieftain. It’s a very nice kit for it age. The figures are nice too. I only struggled with the tracks....had to use epoxy on them. I was unsure about the green/ dark green camo scheme. My gut told me to go with the nato colors. I followed the Tamiya scheme anyways and used several shades of green like you recommended. The results were fantastic. This is probably one of my best builds. Greetings from the UK. Just like to say that I enjoy your videos a lot. I have recently started modelling again after a more than 30 year break! Must admit that I am not a great tank fan(even the Chieftain and even though I am a Brit); aircraft and ships are my particular interests but I have found a lot of inspiration in your films. After such a long absence I am sadly out of date with many of my techniques and have yet to try photoetch (my Zvezda Suvorov is the guinea pig!). Your style suits me because you are not over technical in your presentation and don't 'over complicate' (mean that in a good way). Many of the vids I have watched put me off trying new things but yours do the opposite. Thanks to you my painting technique has come on a treat.

I plan to build a F6F Hellcat and I plan to present the kit on real aircraft carrier! I'm not kidding! Maybe you'll like that video coming soon. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Thank you Ron Mac95 for your kind words. In hindsight, I would have probably enjoyed building the Takom kit as well. I guess I do have a bias towards Tamiya. Funny that you mentioned Al Capone. Some modelers are probably blind?! Color shema is for MK.5 NATO Green and NATO Black. Why is there gray instead of black? The fact that some photos show a gray reflection does not mean that the tank was painted gray! This efect had graphite black. You himself said that at certain angles the color appears differently under light

@@qdc748a I was pointing out this in another video, probably a Russian modeller, and he didn't take my legitimate criticism? And it had the color really gray, so it's at least darker in this video. For example, MK.2 until 1970 had slightly different colors, not standard NATO colors but original RAL, Green was more light OLIVE and Black was not so dark therefore, some have a gray tinge, especially after exposure and soiling. Since 1975, everyone and the blind will know that it is black even in bad photos. I also wish you all the best for the New year

Great job, shame the paint instructions in the box are the wrong colours. Chieftain tank camo is Green and Black. Also the rectangle blocks in the track are rubber blocks so should be very Black. It annoys me when someone builds such a good effort on a kit but the manufactures can't take the time to get the instructions correct, and they had over 40 years to correct the mistake.
@michaeljones-qm4wq6 жыл бұрын
I agree Jim. And the vehicle is too shiny - because of the matt paint. Also they haven't moulded in the sandtex finish on the turret and glacis. Also I don't think this is a Mk5. The Mk5 I'm sure had the all across the bustle NBC pack. This has the early Mk2 NBC pack - as I recall (13/18H were Vehicle Sqn at Bovinton at the time and I did 10 years on Chieftain, including Regimental D&M officer, plus trials at Chersey, and ran Armoured Wing at the D&M school) . Tamiya came down to us to check which Mk they were modelling, and it was actully in the Museum - and there was a long discussion on which Mark it was. We kept telling them it was Mk3, but in the end Mk5 appeared on the box, with the wrong NBC pack. The Mk 5s had IFCS and a muzzle refernce sight.

I have an Arii 1/48 motorized Chieftain. This model here looks really cool too. The engine sound of these tanks has always scared me.

Could you possibly say the prices of the models you build?
@DetailingCars7 жыл бұрын
Prices often depend on where you buy. But you can find the original tamiya price by doing a quick google search

It's beautiful. Though I did wonder about the figures? :)
@qdc748a7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I felt the figures would take away the good looks of the finished model so I decided to leave them out.
