Building planes makes me happy. Watching others build is a joy. All I need to watch this video is a Christmas eve and a cup of hot chocolate. Thank you.

I've always loved model aeroplanes and building them, and watching others enjoy this creative and exciting hobby. Can,t quite work out what sort of cretin would give it a thumbs down.

Great build, Rob! As I said, this makes a 1/10th scale Tamiya kit seem like a walk in the park :-)

Almost any balsa stick and tissue model can be made to fly with rubber band power BUT, model must balance properly usually requiring some ballast in the nose to offset weight of rubber band motor and tail structure. Wings and tail parts must be warp-free. Rubber band motor must be long enough and wound with sufficient turns to provide enough sustained power to fly and climb then glide back down. Short length of rubber usually supplied in kits is not enough for good flights. Watch a number of You Tube videos on rubber powered free flight models to learn basics. Adding electric motors and RC gear to rubber powered models is not for beginners, experience through trial and error required.

Excellent build video Rob Brennan! I like the way you showed the complete build in stages - loved the finished build photos at the end. Looks like a lot of work - how many hours did you spend on it in total? I hope we see a flight video in the near future!

Thanks for the comment and support Mark Bryan RC. I would say around 9 days, roughly 8 hours a day. But it took almost as long condensing the footage down to what you see here. as soon as the weather picks up (if it ever does that is) I hope to get out with all my planes.

RUGGED looking Aircraft Rob!! Something like this might be a better choice for me to do as an actual Flyer... Someone gave me an interesting idea - Build one of these, and get one of those $20-30 Chinese electric Park Flyers. Then, chuck the Plane in the Bin, and take the electronic guts from it, and fit it into the Balsa Plane!! 😎 Except for the cost, that sounds like an entirely feasible and doable idea!!! 👍👍😊 At least Here, the "Park Flyer" Class doesn't require ANY licensing of any type!! Oh, and I've only found 3 Vintage Model Balsa Kits over here, and the cheapest was $45.00US!! 😣😢 Do you have any knowledge of Guillows Balsa Kits? They're more available here, and most in the $15-25 Range! I did have to look at the high-end stuff too.... Saw a BEAUTIFUL 1/18 Scale, Dumass B-17 Bomber! 😊😎 Right, only $249.95!!!!

@pete2778, something to think about.... My "inner James May" has always been fascinated with complex or fiddly things. I definitely prefer the thought of Laser Cut, instead of a pot full of broken bits. I've since found Guilliow Balsa Kits for under $20.00 here in the Colonies. However, I'd be very interested in taking a look at the Tru-Flite plans. I may even reproduce one or two in Styrene! Thanks for that. Cheers, Carmine 💥 ⛽

pete2778. I guess that is why the prop on this model hits the ground, VMC changed it to 150mm
@robbrennanrc
@robbrennanrc 6 жыл бұрын
PoorManRC. VMC do ship around the world so it may be worth checking their web site www.vintagemodelcompany.com/ . As for this kit as pete2778 said it is a reproduction kit supplied by VMC, but the build guide is quite vague and to me assumes the builder has a lot of previous experience in this kind of kit. If I'm honest and I this was my first ever kit I think it would have ended up in the bin and I would never have bought another kit. But I think this was my fourth but I did spend a bit of time working out what to actually do, but I did enjoy making the fuselage framework. No sorry, no experience in Guillows kits.

Rob, that's exactly what happened to my first Balsa Kit, 42 years ago.... That one, became spare Balsa for my Model Railroading Buildings!! All these years of scratchbuilding, I may be ready to sort this! 😱 I will definitely take a look at that website. Thanks! ~ Carmine 💥 ⛽

That's a pretty complicated fuselage for a beginning builder. It wouldn't be so bad in a larger size, but building with such small balsa pieces...they are difficult to work with.
@robbrennanrc

Hi G56AG. Yes it was, but I had assumed that the instructions would have been as detailed as the ones for the SE5a that I had from The Vintage Model Company. How wrong was I. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, how much does your finished model look like the image on the box the kit came in? SO many of us kids and preteens were sucked into buying these monstrosities of deception. NONE of mine actually flew, unless you call a hand launched landing a "flight". A POX an anyone responsible for the lies and heartache and disappointment of kids who loved the art of flight and trusted their hard earned money to the monsters that ran Guillows. The ONLY kits I built, that actually flew, were made by Easybuilt. I don't even know if they're still around, a Canadian company, I think. I'm dying of cancer and I am angry and disgusted with the lies and deception.

I was lucky enough to have a friend whose dad had constructed many scratch-built planes and guided my friend and me through many Guillows projects. With his help they looked beautiful and flew beautifully. My own dad was mostly absent so the mentoring was that much more special. Now I have a grandson and hope to share the process with him. I'm so sorry that you are faced with cancer. Please know that at least one stranger is thinking of you today and wishing you well.
