I am not a fan of contemporary art usually but the concept, design, production and location of this piece is magnificent. Given the history of this region (and the artists understanding of it) a new world landmark has been created. Everyone that was involved in the creation of this work must be so proud. It is so very beautiful.

Excellent documentary (apart from some sound problems). There was also a 30 min film of Econofreight transporting the components from Hartlepool up the A19 - any idea where I could find that?

So how come it cost £800,000 somebody's done alright out of this project I mean if you take in the car park and the greenery and putting the structure up and transported it from Hartlepool & building it ( it still shouldn't have come to that) 799 maybe but not 800.

In this video, they are trying to give off the persona that this was like building the Hoover Dam or the Suez Canal... Hardly.

Because at the time the Angel of the North was constructed it was a symbol of Northern English regional rebirth and hope after decades of decline of traditional coal mining, steel making and ship building which had gone forever.. It was quite ironic that it was constructed on the site of a former pit given that so many lives had been lost in collieries across the region over the past four hundred years..The Hoover Dam was a symbol to America after the 30s stock market crash about rebuilding,,, and this was North East England's structure of hope...
