Maybe you could plant some corn, berries, melons, pumpkins, etc. in the nature area in the center of the base and harvest them occasionally to fill the food trough.

You could build a small overhang off the side of your building by the food trough for the animals to get under in a storm. (If you feel like they need shelter.)

To feed the horses you can make food with all seeds aswel i think it was a point in the first tier, you can put it in your bar then right click when you target the horse

if you want a proper bed you can unlock Interior Furniture or make a Rustic Bench in the workbench

Do the different animals run at different speeds? Probably not but that would have been a nice touch.
