Excellent job. That cartoon was my chief, favorite cartoon of all time. It's lasting impression has left me in awe of it since I was a kid. Reading a ton of marvel comics at the time and some dc , that cartoon came out of nowhere and blew up the scene ❤

Orginally in jlu, the final season was supposed to have a full-on legion of doom, meaning characters like scarecrow, captain cold, solomon grundy, riddler, and black manta were planned to be in the legion of doom but due to legal issues for using the characters it was scrapped. And also black manta was supposed to have a bigger role in jlu season 2.

I’ve heard bits and pieces about that. It seems to mostly stem from Warner Bros being really weird back then when it came to their DC properties. There was the “Bat-Embargo” that literally meant there could only be so many versions of a given character in media at a time, so guys like Riddler and Penguin were already taken by The Batman cartoon. Further still, the Batman cartoon couldn’t use Scarecrow, Ra’s Al Ghul, or Two Face because they were set to be in the Nolan movies. It was all a jumbled mess that just another example of Warner Bros not really getting DC. As for Black Manta, I think it was because Aquaman was supposed to get a movie so they were saving him for that? I forget, but it was a canceled project that meant Black Manta had to be Devil Ray in JLU. Just fun trivia now that I’m sure was a nightmare for creators back in the day.

Cool video, I’m inspired now to start building a legion of my own! Also, seems like I saw a raw prototype Scarecrow by Mafex. Looked to be the classic version. It will be expensive but I’ll probably pre order it when it’s available.

That Scarecrow looks amazing! Yeah, if I had actually thought about it, I would have waited to make this video after SDCC, but that Scarecrow would definitely work. The only thing I’d say is that it’s 6” scale, so it would be much shorter than McFarlane figures. That said, if you were building a 6” collection, that would totally work for your Scarecrow. For 6”-scale, I’d recommend DCUC Lex Luthor, MAFEX Riddler, Mattel Multiverse Bizarro, Justice Toyman, DCUC Brainiac, MAFEX Scarecrow, DCUC Grundy, DCUC Classic Cheetah, DCUC Giganta, MAFEX Black Adam, DCUC Captain Cold, McFarlane Grodd, and DCUC Sinestro. It would be an awesome looking shelf, and most of those figures are a bit cheaper than the ones talked about here, while also allowing you to use MAFEX figures.

Cool legion of doom set.. I was able to build mine with DCUC except Grodd, I was late by 2 waves in the DCUC game, but bought the closed mouth Neca King Kong, he’s my Grodd ..

I watched a lot of reviews about the page puncher gorrila grodd and I was never sold on it, but looking at him next to new 52 lex and I can see how great he is for a legion of Doom team up thanks dude. Very hyped to see McFarlanes take on Sinestro

Actually, you could have gotten the Armored Gorilla Grodd for $20 from Amazon rather than spend twice as much for the second one. I ended up buying 2; one for Earth 1 Legion of Doom and another for my Earth 6; Kingdom Come style Legion of Doom. DC has always been Terrible about giving us enough Villains! Except for my Earth 3 Crime Syndicate, which I have expanded to 13 members (only 7 were released), on all my other Earth's the Heroes have a Numerical Superiority. Well, Earth Watchmen maybe too, but only because I have given Ozymandis Legion of Doom a lot of Wrestlers! Examples; Earth 1, I have a 42 member Legion of Doom, Joker with 4 Goons and 1 Thug, League of Assassin's, Ra's Al Ghul with Talia and Fudged Nyssa, Lady Shiva, 2 Elite Ninja, 8 regular Ninja I have cobbled together. Darkseid Army is Darkseid, 1 Parademon, Batman and Wonder Woman from God's and Monsters, Mr. Miracle because I don't like him, and Cyclotron. Sounds like a lot but I have a; 27 member Justice League with 8 Reserves 20 member Green Lantern Corps 20 Titans 8 Outsiders 3 each Doom Patrol and Metal Men Earth 2: I have a 31 member Justice Society, but only a 15 member Injustice Society. Only 1, Solomon Grundy, even counts as a member of the Injustice Society. Earth 35: an accidental creation. I used to own my own Comic Book Store. The Media Chain Hastings went out of business a few years ago, and they called me up and offered me a 1 hour head start on their Going Out of Business Sale! I ended up buying a LOT of Alternate Female Figures that I didn't have. Arrowverse, Wonder Woman movie, Elseworlds, New 52 etc. There were a lot of Heroines, but not a lot of Villainesses. I was only able to get another Cheetah (modern), Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy. I have since added to the Villainess ranks with various Figures, but still, I've got a full League of about 20 members and only 14 or 15 in my fudged Female Legion of Doom. Not counting some Robots so they might have a slight advantage now. Since there are no men left on Earth 35, I have to use Robots.

I dont know If I should go for the yellow Sinestro or wait and see if they do his original blue costume. Aiming for something more retro nostalgic but Sinestro corp makes more sense to me.

I would be amazed if they never did a blue Sinestro now that they have the mold for him, but there’s no telling when they’d make it. It could in a few months, or it could be three years from now. In all honesty, I prefer the modern look and am happy they are going with a Sinestro Corps Sinestro, but I also totally get that he was blue for most of his publication history. We’ll just have to wait and see.

My JL vs LOD is mainly 6 inch. Mostly because my JL figs are all DC Icons minus J'onn. He's a DCUC fig. So,it's a bit easier to complete? But for the LOD? My goodness. I had to wait for good deals on most of them. Also,some didn't fit well with the icons. Because DC Collectibles never made other villains for the LOD.

That sucks, man. On the bright side, since it’s 6” scale, you could use MAFEX and DCUC. I know all the Legion members were in DC Universe Classics, and they could probably work on an aesthetic level with Icons. Moreover, Black Manta, Scarecrow, and Riddler all have MAFEX figures you could use!

That was a total gaff on my part! I have no idea why, but for some reason I thought there was a Platinum Release of the Luthor with an LED. A few other people asked about it, and that’s when I realized I was actually thinking of Darkseid Luthor that came with the throne. I’m sorry about that, just a weird Mandela effect for me!

I should have said it’s too short in my opinion. I like Grundy being a Goliath, and him just being a head taller than most of the McFarlane figures isn’t too my liking. I did have it, but I would up selling it a few years back.

I'm not a fan of McFarlane DC! I have built 6 different DC Earth's; Earth 1: Main DC Earth 2: Justice Society Earth 3: Crime Syndicate Earth 6: Kingdom Come style Earth 23: Expanded Watchmen style Earth 35: Created Equal, All Female style I have bought exactly 5 McFarlane DC Figures! On Earth 1 I have built a 42 member Legion of Doom. But DC has always been Terrible about giving us enough Villains. Only on my Earth 3 does my 13 member Crime Syndicate have a slight numbers advantage over my 10 member Young Justice.

That’s awesome! Also, it really does suck how hard it is to get good villain figures. At least Marvel in recent years has slowly gotten better in Legends with giving us villain characters, same with series like Star Wars and Transformers, but DC is still so far behind. There are so many teams left unfinished or haven’t even been given any representation. It’s like if they not a Batman villain, Mattel and McFarlane tell them they need not apply.

Mcfarlane will come up with Brainiac and Sinestro which leaves us with the 2 girls and Toyman. I have a hunch that Cheetah will be made in the future. I hope Mcfarlane makes them all. I agree that the Mcfarlane takes are the best because I don't like the cartoonish versions. Their versions are updated and do refer to some references in comics.

Absolutely, I really have grown to love the McFarlabe style. I think that they will eventually hit almost everyone. Cheetah is Wonder Woman’s most well-known villain, and with all the Superman love they’ve been showing lately, Toyman is probably on a whiteboard somewhere. The only one I don’t know if they’ll make or not is Giganta. Giganta would need a big figure, she’s not notable outside of the Legion, she’s not attached to one of mainstream heroes; she’s effectively an island to herself in a toy line. I really hope I’m wrong, though.

I like how that Captain Cold looks a lot. My one issue is his lack of articulation. That doesn’t bother me on characters like Toyman, Grodd, or Brainiac, but I always imagine Cold in crouching poses or action stances.

I would love to get them- especially Riddler-, but I would actually put them with DC Universe Classics figures. MAFEX is a 6” scale, whereas all the figures here are aiming more for the 7” scale. MAFEX figures would look and probably feel amazing, but I think they’d be way too short for a McFarlane/DC Collectibles shelf. At the same time, if scale doesn’t really bother you, those figure will probably blow any other Riddler or Scarecrow out of the water, and they’d be an awesome part of any shelf!

I never really thought about that. For 7” scale, I think it would be too small. At the same time, I don’t have that figure, and I can’t find a consistent height online. At the end of the day, the most important opinion about your collection is your own. If you want to use Eaglemoss, it can work! The figure would be about 5” tall, but you could place it on a small base to hide that. Hell, Giganta is able to grow Giant, you could even just headcannon that they’re a shorter person normally. I’m sorry if that’s not a great answer. At the end of the day, the only question is what you’d like to do.

I’ve put together the Crime Syndicate of America, and the legion of doom it’s mostly DC Collectables, essential’s and icons and the only member i’m is missing is Giganta (she’s my DC Grail ) I started late putting it together that’s why I missed out on that wave I did see her once at a con but didn’t get it , I’m sorry I can’t stand McFarlane figure’s there just to big nothing scales properly Night-wing and Robin are the same size as Batman Ridiculous , and Warner’s no gun policy Peace maker come’s with swords no gun’s, no alternate heads in the package he put out an entirely another figure which is waste of plastic and resources, and his articulation is often wonky and wired I can’t stand it, I was truly sad when they gave the license to McFarlane and then renewed it for another two years, if Warner Bro’s could have just hung on a little longer with icons and essentials they where just starting to hit there stride I think they really could have turned it around and I’ve tried to use McFarlane figures like Clayface but I don’t really care for it. The Face on Lobo is awful it’s bearly a sculpt. I’m sorry they extended his license it would be great if we could see what the Four Horseman could do with the license now with all they’ve learned, or what Jada Toys could do with it. I have two Justice League’s Essential’s and Mezco and I really love how the Mezco look they could use more varied body sizes other wise it’s excellent. With that all said I did enjoy you video on how to build a legion of Doom and it dosen’t look bad 👍🏾👍🏾I do want the Catman though since I missed out on the previous one if figure out how to modify it down to six inches.

If you want to use the McFarlane Catman, you could potentially cheat it in a few ways. You could have Catman always kneeling/slouched to make him appear smaller. Otherwise, if you use risers for your collection, you could either put Catman in the front and slouch him or put him in back/ in the middle with legs spread out to make lower, and then place figure in front of him so that no one can see it.

@@johnpglackin345 I’ve seen in interviews that the designers have said that villains and lesser-known characters don’t sell, but we live in a time where you don’t have to mass produce figures for big-box stores. McFarlane has their own website, a place where they can sell directly to the consumer, but their exclusives are all things that would sell well at a Walmart or Target. Dick Grayson Robin, Superman, Kid Flash: all of these guys would do fine at standard retail. I don’t get why they couldn’t sell some lesser known but still wanted figures on their website.

@@johnpglackin345 That makes sense. If you give the figures solid marketing or packaging, or found a way to make people really invest in collecting a team, that could help. Maybe if there was a sub collection. Like, take a year, call “Era of Evil”, and have all thirteen members of the Legion released through various waves. Like, let’s days there’s six waves of 2-3 figures every year, give the Legion Members a little number to let you know this is a collection within the collection, the way Transformers Studio Series does.

I had almost the whole Justice figure line , to me most of those have been the best representation of the Legion of Doim . I ended up putting Poison Ivy in for Giganta Also ive always thought Joker would have been a better choice to lead the group than Luthor .
