I've just been lucky enough to pick up an old, home made miniature house from my local auction rooms. You are giving me lots of ideas for the Diagon Alley shop I'm intending to create. I've built a number of miniature houses over the years and, like you, none of them have ever been inhabited by anything other than my imagination!

Thank you for another fun video! As a fellow ADHD sister, I know how random our thought processes are and how easily we put things in safe places, only to find that they were so good, they are safe from us as well! I may have to install a few cameras around the house as I don't have a witness to help me out!😂 As a child and sixty three years later, I love looking into miniature houses and items, and get caught up in the magic of them. (Sugar Easter Eggs with scenes in them at the bakery, Christmas ornaments made from hollowed out eggs). It's nice to be reminded of those little things that really were the big things. Looking forward to the next video! Have a great day!

Thankfully, I've never had one while driving, but I'm on a very high dosage of medication as well, so there's that. It was so good of you, your husband and the nurse lady to give assistance to that poor lady. The house is coming along so well! I love the stairs and the fireplace and the tin ceilings. Hiya Nik! This house is looking great! If you plaster/spackle the walls before assembly, you can leave a gap around any edges where walls or other moldings may connect. You will probably still have to fill gaps though, so I think you made the right choice plastering after assembly. Your idea for the tin ceiling is awesome! I kinda want try it in my apartment to cover the awful popcorn ceiling :D

Oh, just tell everyone it's Venetian plastered. They'll buy that. Cool for the stucco on the exterior. You amaze me the stuff you make. Curious, where is this going and why? If you want to share great, if not I understand. Whoops, meant to also say thank you for stopping and coming to the aid of that poor woman. My brother has had epilepsy since he was 9 and in his early 60's the seizures changed from controllable petit mals to grand mals (he no longer is allowed to drive). Thankful the nurse came along as well. Hope the poor lady will be okay.

I hope she's okay, too. She must've been so scared waking up with a shattered windshield and air bags. As for why I'm making a house? Good question! I've been wanting to see if I could make one and decided it was time to try. =)
@recoveringsoul755 Жыл бұрын
No plan? Sure seems like you must have had some kind of plan for part one. Shapes and windows and doors cut out? Is it to 1:12 scale? For an easy roof I've used sandpaper, painted it a couple of colors, then cut into strips, notch partway through to make shingles, then attach overlapped strips. Should look like shingles but go on faster.
@NiktheBooksmith Жыл бұрын
I guess what I should have said was I didn't have any house plans or instructions, I just sketched an idea and cut it out. And yes, it's 1:12, or pretty close!

Loved your comment that putting a doll in a doll house "breaks the spell"!! My mother collected character & costume dolls and made bisque dolls of her own design. In the miniature she did of my grandfather's country store, she put my "grandparents" behind the counter and my "twin sons" at the candy display. All the other miniatures she did -- including a big Victorian farmhouse -- were "her" houses and therefore... NO doll "occupants." I take that back... she did a miniature "Santa's Workshop" populated with Mr. & Mrs. Clause and a mini-hoard of elves.... and turned a big plaster boot (scuffed & mis-shaped by wear) into a "mouse house" a'la "The Old Woman in the Shoe." There were mice kids in gingham dresses and bib overalls and "onesies" all over the place! I love ALL your videos and am really looking forward to watching you create this "not-a-doll's house" miniature & make it -- as you do ALL your creative projects -- UNIQUELY your own!

I LOVE this! I made my 1st “doll house” when I was 22. I’m 74 now. There weren’t that many miniature supplies then. I made a marble floor with 1” squares of Masonite which I painted white then sprayed black paint on water and dipped them. They looked awesome. In my next house (10 years later) I turned it upside down and used sparkle in a cake decorating bag with a small shell tip to make moldings on the ceilings. I think your faux tin ceiling idea is brilliant! I also used sparkle to make stones on the exterior (what a headache) but much prefer your stucco method. I can’t wait to see your book nook. OMG! I need a KZbin channel so viewers can help me find my lost stuff! My husband is getting sick of calling my phone so I can find it. What a traumatizing experience for you and luck for the poor woman that you were there! I hope she recovers fully. ❤ Shirley

As far as the acetate goes, whenever my son gets a new toy that has a plastic opening I always remove it carefully and save it. I have a whole cardboard box full of these large pieces of plastic that revealed the toy inside. It's always exciting to get interesting shapes, as well, like circles or things that could be used for a special (bay) window.

You mentioned you were using Masonite or chip board, and it reminded me that my late father in law worked for a Masonite plant here in NC his whole adult life. He built my husband a building out back on the property for his band to play in year ago, using a bunch of product from said plant. That stuff is tough. The whole inside and sub floor is Masonite and 30 years later it has become our son's play area, storage and such. I had never heard Masonite till I married him, and found out that stuff is used for everything.

I'm loving this so much!!! You know, when I need acetate, I raid the pantry and look for packaging that's got what I need. As for the accident you witnessed, I can relate. I was behind someone who suddenly hydro-planed across 4 lanes of traffic, jumped the guard rail, and ended up 20 ft down an embankment. I stopped and ran over just as she was scrambling back up and crawling over the rail. She launched herself into my arms sobbing. Poor thing was scared out of her mind. I'm glad you were OK, not involved directly, and hope that the woman in your story is alright as well.

I've had grand mals since i was 14. Been lucky in car accidents so far. Going limp really does reduce injuries. First one the pharmacy had put 2 different types of pills in my prescription I'd just gotten. My car flipped upside down and was totalled. Brand new car. Next one was also car totaled, head on collision. Had bruises but nothing broken. The first one, if it happened an hour earlier i would have gone off a cliff. Nobody else was seriously injured. I hate not remembering though.
