hilariously enough, the ferrari v12 was weaker than the honda v10, so they really missed the mark by the time schumacher came, they had the most powerful engine, so much so that he couldn't believe they won nothing with it, but then they switched to a v10, and it sucked. at least ferrari these days have a quick car, even if the strategy department is a joke, they didn't even have that during f1's peak, regularly getting destroyed by williams, mclaren and even benetton

When you were doing the laps you shifted to low! If you stayed in third for those solower corners (where you were near the top of seconds rev range) you would have had more traction and better long term acceleration by getting rid of the extra shift.

Best sounding engines? Absolutely - screaming loud as hell. But in terms of performance they're equalled by the V6. Alonso's fastest lap in his championship winning Renault R25 was roughly equal to Hamilton's fastest lap in the race (1:39.283) in Abu Dhabi 2019. [Which is still 4.5s slower than the pole lap of 1:34.779] TLDR: Best sound yes, best performance no.

From what I heard is that they sound actually really great when you hear them live and rather dull on TV. Yes they don't scream as much, but they are far away from sounding bad :D
