I have anxiety and it's been bad recently due to a lot of happenings and I get like... it's not fear? But dread when I lay down and I can't sleep because I'm afraid what will happen when I wake up (nothing very bad is happening in my life, but my anxiety is just ready for the next bad thing) but listening Kayla helps me fall asleep because it doesn't make me feel alone. Like falling asleep while your friend stays up playing games to make sure nothing bad happens while your sleeping or something.

My great grandma always had her house painted hot HOT pink. Since her passing, my aunt and her family have moved in and they've kept it Nana's favorite pink shade with her roses out front. She would be happy to know the outside is the same, even if the inside has been changed up. Even 8 years since her passing you can occasionally smell her perfume walking in the hallway between the bedrooms and the den/kitchen/living room. She put her perfume on right at the crossing of the rooms before going out

@@beehivebat4766 thank you, she was quite a spitfire. She was born on Halloween 1925 and was about 3 weeks premature. She was born so early that the doctor didn't think she'd live so a birth certificate wasn't issued until the following day. The low that night was 29° in Brooklyn, so my great great grandma laid her to sleep in wooden crate inside their oven because it was more insulated than the rest of the house. She liked Irish coffee, as a Brooklynite of Irish descent. She served in 1940 at age 18 until the end of the second world war as a secretary for the army on the home front. And after settling down, having two kids, and moving to California she worked for the Santa Ana fire department for many years. There's a local bar in the orange county area that has you sign your name on the bottom of the bar stool if you fall off of it. My great grandmother's name graces the bottom of 80% of their stools. Towards the end of her life her body slowed her down but never stopped her, she was still a jokester. She'd come up behind her grandkids (my mother) and "goose" her, aka she'd grab my mom's butt cheek so my mom would squeal and then Nana would hobble away cackling. She was also a very good aim with a flip flop, which she learned from her Filipino next door neighbor, who was also a close friend. And once she wasn't able to bend down and grab her shoe anymore, she learned how to use her cane to lob it at you with just as much accuracy.

@@beehivebat4766 her roses were her everything. Every time we visited after moving across the country, she'd try and get us to take cuttings home to graft. And she loved lemons, she had a big old lemon tree in the backyard that fruits year-round. I wish she'd lived long enough that I could have had a beer with her. Although I don't for one second believe I'd beat her in a drinking contest. She'd be able to drink me under the table any day

really tho! most houses in general are pretty similar. they're either long boxes with one floor, or squareish boxes with multiple floors. windows relatively equally spaced in front. bedrooms and shared living spaces mostly separate from each other, either by stairs or by a hallway. occasionally there's a room or two added on in a bump out. and there might be a porch or portico adding some dimension in the front. that's about it. i don't really mind how it looks in sims, looks pretty similar to real life 🤷🏻

@nixi-bixi

Im in the uk, in EVERY home ive lived in ive had carpet in every room except bathrooms and kitchens. Ive often used rugs on top of carpet, for many years renting, carpets are usually thin and sometimes not great colours so a rug is great to cover a bad coloured carpet or if its a thin carpet to have a nice foot feel in bedrooms for example. I also like how in open plan homes rugs can define a living area. I bought my apartment 8 yrs ago and the whole apartment didn't have finished flooring except for the kichen and bathroom so i had to get that sorted before I moved in. Cost wise carpet made sense, from my rental life i knew I didn't want the cheapest thinnest carpet but flooring is expensive. So whilst id love real wood flooring, the leasehold stipulated a certain thickness for under flooring insulation with hard floors so I opted for a mid thickness carpet but i still have a rug in my living room and bedroom for extra squishiness, insulation and it helps define my space especially the combo living/dining room. Add rugs to carpet floors if u want to kayla!

I think a more realistic house would have missmatching stuff, speacilly woods! Since you initicialy just buy whatever is the best price and that >kinda< fits in, not completly... So a more realistic house would have, for example, a lot of dark toned wood, but not exactly the same coloured wood. Or even same colour and tone, but different pattern of wood 😂 (I love doing that on Sims 3!)
@tangerine101

As someone who lives in Europe, it’s almost fascinating to see how American houses are built. Where I’m from, the dining room and kitchen are connected, and there’s a sliding door in the kitchen, and it’s tile on the floor, but not on the walls. And in all the bedrooms there’s wood floor, and the stairs are like floating, no under wall thingys, and the floor plan for the first and second floor are the EXACT same, besides the room next to mine not being a bedroom, but a laundry room😭

Great build! i do this quite often when building. I kinda find it fun, almost like a puzzle to recreate real floor plans. I used common measurements for things like appliances and windows to get a relative scale (it's not 100% acurate). Many stoves are 27"-30" and windows and doors tend to be close to 36". Many of these only take up one square in the game, so assume one square is 3'x3'. it works MOST of the time! Have fun Simming!

That's a good thing. Build your way. Find your own build style. And for whatever reason Kayla makes builds more complicated than necessary. Most real houses are just a big rectangle. And for the life of me, I don't understand why she claims she struggles to make floor plans for those type of houses. The simplest way to set up a floor plan is to have one room essentially be the hub, from which most of the rooms come off of.

@lexvt3551 that's what porches, patios and or landscaping is for. What I do, typically is a square or rectangle with a garage on the side that doesn't fully line up, to act as the bump out, then a front porch, and you can still have a "box" not look like a box from the outside.
@puredemon5926

I also wish we had half tile walls. It'd be so nice! Imagine all the things you could build with that little thing. And talking about garages, a lot of people convert that space into something else, (especially if they don't drive anymore or at all) so that it's not for cars but hobbies or storage. So using it that way in the Sims makes sense.

The best way to go from a floorplan to sims w/o math or too much guessing is to first make the bathrooms. They are pretty much exactly 1:1 RL to Sims, so making bathrooms, and then the kitchen really helps complete the rest of the plan by just counting the size based on those.

The house we lived in in NC when I was young had carpeting throughout the downstairs, we didn't have rugs in the bedrooms. Had 1 in the living room 100% only because it was a set with the furniture and if it didn't come with the couch, recliner, and tables we definitely wouldn't have had one there either. My extended family with carpeting never had rugs on the carpets either. At one point a SMALL rug like a couple feet was gotten for 1 bedroom to hide a burn in the carpet from an on lamp that was knocked over lol.

The ONLY time I've seen rugs on carpet is in like high traffic places. Like maybe under a coffee table to help try to prevent spills on the carpet. Maybe a rug under a desk chair as well. About the rug on the carpet- we definitely do that😂 my parents do that because the carpet is a neutral color but my mom wants some kind of color/pattern but gets tired of it every 5-10 years soooo its easier and cheaper to change a rug than to redo the carpet. My husband and I do it because it sets spaces apart like our ‘living room’ space vs our ‘dining room’ space when they are in the same room on the same carpet in our apartment. Plus, extra cushion for bedrooms!

Granted I get that the Sims version would benefit more from desks but maybe at least one is that closet? Plus extra woohoo spot. Also a rug on carpet isn't weird, it's actually kind of a feng shui thing, it helps to create zones, sleeping, walking, etc. Helps to make a room feel more cozy and in this case, might help you/the sims sleep better

if you think about plumbing lines, the bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms are usually clustered since the piping is super expensive per foot. and usually you put the master bedroom away from the street.

There are other sims yt creators and they used a roof piece to make a ramp type thing for the garage so it makes sense on how the car gets into the garage. That’s for if you want a foundation on your house.

Yeah Simsie has done the same thing before as well. The issue is that's good for show and nothing else. She has mentioned that she knows how to do it and everything but it leads to the house not really functioning well. It's why she doesn't ever use the TOOL mod as well. While it can let you build some ridiculously amazing things, it can also cause a lot of issues in gameplay.

It's really funny watching videos like this being a Brazilian because for us that is a 100% not a normal house. But in the end we are used to it. The Sims is a very American and most of the time we can't do "our" houses in the game. We have to learn how to copy yours because they fit better. 🤣

When I build off of a floorplan, I usually scale it by counting the windows, counters, and bathroom fixtures, since each has a specific tile size. Once I get the basic idea out, I can make adjustments, like cutting out closets, shifting rooms, moving stairs, etc.

One of the cooler things (well I guess that’s kind of a loose term) about living in Florida is seeing the extensive differences in house designs all over. In my area you go from 70s houses(my house for example) and only a few streets down you have the developments with McMansion-esque design. I’m sure that’s not only a florida thing, but it’s so common here that you don’t really think about it much. It really depends on when that area was built, so much aesthetic choice can change over just a few years.

I actually have more issues with shells then floor plans, I just do not understand how to make the shape make sense and not be super flat. When I have the overall shape the floor plan just works out so I mostly just do something similar to a sims KZbinr’s build shape but tweak it to my needs.

this is so interesting. seeing how the styles differ from what i am used to from germany? when i build, theres always a prober entry way, often even a full hallway, theres a guest bathroom right next to the entry, living room and kitchen are always the first rooms to happen near the entry, maybe an office and the bedrooms are either always on the second level or all together in the back of the build lol.

Honestly, American houses are wild, I've always lived in 'townhouses' in England, regular old terraced teeny tiny houses. Like the second bedroom is barely big enough to fit a double bed kinda small, and I feel like that's the standard here, idk. Kinda looking forward to the new pack so i can actually build a lot that looks like my house without it sticking out like a sore thumb in the middle of the lot 😂 Also on the 'rugs on carpet' thing! Absolutely rugs on carpet! It protects the carpet from spills and pets and stuff, adds extra insulation if you've got a landlord special ultra thin carpet and lets you funky up a space so its not all like... Beige 😂 Something sims also don't care about but I very much do is cold feet! Rugs everywhere! 😂

This one is so realistic! Love it! Only thing is I swear there's blinds instead of curtains in newer houses, almost always. 😭 Also YES PLEASE post the Florida house! Both sets of my grandparents and the majority of my extended family live in FL so my family visited multiple times a year growing up. Now that I'm married and moved out I don't get to visit much, but I remember Florida fondly even though the whole government side of it is a disaster... but that's a lot of places. I always loved the houses there, because everyone I knew down there had a pool and a garden and some kind of swamp nearby lol. And they always had good sidewalks to walk on, which was not my experience in rural Alabama... though back in my early childhood Wisconsin days, we could literally walk from our home ALL THE WAY to the library on a sidewalk. It was wild. ANYWAY. Love your videos, thank you for giving me good inspo! I struggle with realistic house builds for sure lol.

What seems to us as "realistic" usually depends a lot on where we live. As a German it is always hard to build houses that look the way I'm used to. All of the Sims building stuff is designed to look American. Sims just made me realize how different people build their houses all over the world.
