Hi, I have been reef keeping for 30+ years. Firstly let me say a great build looks very neat. Silicone will not adhere to glass you will need a solvent glue such as Tensol. Whilst it might feel ok now it will soon collapse. Sicce pumps are ok but I found them to be a bit noisy. The quietest return pump i have found is the new Sine wave Jecod pumps....reallly quiet.

Hello Franksee, it look like we have different experience, perhaps due to the size? I'm running/built 4 aquarium this way, all of them seem to work perfectly overtime, absolutely 0 issue what so ever. I think you mean Siliconne will not Adhere to Acrylic (not glass). For acrylic to Acrylic I like you recommendation, i actually talk about that in my next video. I don't think there's any glue For acrylic to Glass, that why I tried to keep everything simple, using silicone. But indeed Acrylic Adhesive work best with other plastic! For Sicce, it's a first for me, I have a Eheim 2000+_ Compact plus and wanted to try something else. So far i'm also very please with that pump, super silent, I actually bought another one for my frag tank. Maybe one day I will try Jecod pump, thank you for the advice!

You really need a table saw. Also there are pick style tools for working clay that have different size metal balls on the end... great for getting a perfect fillet on your silicone.

Ok so I done this same as you. I drilled a 20mm hole for return. I ordered 20mm bulkhead like yours. What size was that elbow for your hose to attach to from the pump?? 18mm?
@AquaSplendor2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely no clue, I simply tested my stuff at store and/or found stuff in my bag that I hold since 20 years of random pipe lol. Sorry I know it's not helping, honestly, I hate plumbing, always a mess to deal with. Try until it fit is my modo. The bulkhead however was marked 3/4". then again, what really means 3/4, sometimes it's just a name, not even a number from a specific part of the bulkhead/pipe.
@KristopherONeill19872 жыл бұрын
@@AquaSplendor yeah that’s ok I’d ordered 3/4. So hopefully it’ll hold up as good as yours. Thank you

I thought it's impossible to glue silicon to acrylic. Or at least the adhesion results are terrible. Any issues encountered? How strong is the bond?
@AquaSplendor2 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on the silicon brand, some stick better. Also note that theirs almost no pression, it's simply baffle. If you apply a generous amount of silicone you should be fine "forever". Obviously, Glass and silicone stick much better.

@aquaSplendor - Nice work! I have enjoyed your progress on this tank. I'm in the process of converting a fluval edge 6.0 into a mini reef. Did you need to adjust the return flow? It does not look like you're running any wavemaker but still have ample flow. Is the water moving too fast in the "sump"? Do you just have an open tube dumping into the tank or are you using any type of flow regulator or other flow modifier?
@AquaSplendor9 ай бұрын
Hello, thank you, using the return pump to create the flow, that's it, keeping it simple. I can adjust the pump for the flow, it is set to the minimum ish. What you see is what you get honestly.

Does plexi bond well with silicone?
@AquaSplendor3 ай бұрын
No, there's some silicone and some plexi that stick better than other, but generally speaking no. Because this aquarium is small and there's not much pressure, we can get away with this.
