I've seen some comments to the effect that the assembling/glueing part is only to get to the painting part. I find glooing parts together very theraputic, especially when they fit well together (like this on here). Very good vid Andy.

@William Koppos - I could not agree more! When I read the comments on this and other modelling videos, I get the district impression that building the model is seen as a chore and a lot of people would be happy to buy a completed model and just paint it!

Many of us appreciate you still taking the time to do these construction/painting/weathering videos. @andreaslarka16333 жыл бұрын
No, those are the holders for the antennas when stored / not used. There are no "vents to lift" outside. In the engine bay there are shields that close off the radiators, but they are operated from within the StuG.

Heck, all the hard work has been done in development [as it should be], so that this kit is 'shake and bake' as far as assembly goes. It is practically a weekend build... Clearly someone gets the notion that people don't want to headbutt a brickwall over and over, and just want to get to the painting - make it come alive. With this kind of approach, I hope there will be other 1/16 Das Werk kits... I certainly wish they'd announced a 1/16 RSO/01, instead of the upcoming 1/35 kit which seems like it might be a licensed re-pop of the old problematic Dragon kit, reading between the words on Das Werk's own website...

Very interesting high quality model. Two things I must point out: the late production tracks are absolutely the same for the both the Pz.Kpfw IV and the StuG III but it was longer on the Pz.Kpfw IV by simply adding more tracks! Finally those lines on the nets are much needed fuel vents as all German tanks are highly inflammable gas!

Hi Andy, I cant even hazard a guess as to what those little brackets / rods over the engine intakes might be for. You could try contacting a fellow You Tuber Nicholas Moran, AKA The Chieftain on his site "The Chieftains hatch". His site is primarily armour related as he was a tanker in the National Guard. He is originally from Ireland and a model maker to boot. He is an associate of a guy called Hillary Doyle; another Irish man, who is the motherload of information on WW2 German armour. If he doesn't know what they are I'd take them off, probably not meant to be there. 😄 Great build as always, I cant wait for mine to arrive in early December.
@nickbrough83353 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly this is very similar to a 1/35 scale build, rather than the more remote controlled vehicle orientation typical of 1/16 scale. Apart from scratching my head about where to put it (I still have a Porsche turreted 1/16 scale Tamiya Tiger 2 in my stash) I'm rather inclined to spend some cash here. I'll wait for it to arrive in the UK though as I suspect postage is going to be quite expensive.

For the interior, Das Werk provide only some of the major items. Even just looking through the open hatches you can see that many things are not present. Aftermarket sets will surely appear. May I ask you a couple of things about the leftover parts on your sprues? 1. The kit provides two complete radio sets - Fu5 and Fu 8. Therefore it should have the "star" antenna, and the right-hand external antenna base should be a large cylindrical assembly, much bigger than what I see in the video. Did the kit include a large antenna base that you didn't use? 2. Since it has these two radio sets, it's a unit commander's vehicle. Most decal options will presumably be for rank-and-file Stugs. They would have only one radio set (two boxes). Does the kit provide empty radio racks for those Stugs? 3. Platoon commanders would have the Fu5 and one extra receiver box of the same type. That's one more than you used. Is there a leftover radio device on your sprues? Thank you.

That's a pretty sick gift! And the Russian heavy mg was the dishka in 12.7mm basically Russian. 50. It's deadly seeing that strike on the track as folks don't model the heavy MG strikes on their armour just lighter bullets. But with a hole that big one one could put some serious damage on a kit.

A fun build until I tried to mount the tires onto the road wheel rims. The tolerances are extreme!y tight, requiring extensive sanding of each tire's inside surface before joining them to their wheels. It's very easy to break the rods between the rims if one simply attempts to push the tires on without pre-sanding
@chugg5352 жыл бұрын
True enough. The molds were off by a couple thousands on this one. I tried putting the rims in the freezer and the tires in the oven (about 150* f) for 15 minutes, and that helps, but like you, I will probably find a way to sand the part. Hopefully without messing up the paint job.
