Just recently purchased this kit and I'll admit I was a bit skeptical. Never heard of Zvezda, but I love this ship so I thought I'd take a chance. WOW! was I in for a pleasant surprise. The molded parts were crisp and clean with practically no flash. Most parts fit as advertised with no need of trimming,or sanding. A bit expensive for me but well worth it. A beautiful kt!

I was very impressed with it as well. I built both the Revell and Zvezda kits and I must say I preferred the Zvezda.

Zvezda quality is on par with Tamiya, way above what Revell is. Might be a bit scarce with the current war in Ukraine though

Hey there, Im about to buy this beauty but Im relatively new to ship building. Ive worked on DIY projects sure so I have some experience and knowledge but this would be my first ship. Some additional materials are 6 different pencils, a bottle of pencil cleaning, glue and paint colors such as brown, black, gold, light gray, beige, anthracite, brass and tank gray. Are their other materials I need of high priority? Also when looking at your video, Ive seen you use tape. My guess is to hold the parts until the glue is set? Do you recommend me doing the same or use clamps? Or other tactics?

@sandermeevis524 I would recommend tape, since it is more versatile and some of the pieces are quite small and delicate, and clamps may be too strong. I also recommend getting binder clips to hold the rigging tight while the glue is setting. The model will tell you to tie the rigging to the belaying pins (the little knobs on the railings), but I found that too complicated to I just wrapped the thread around them and hung the clips on it for tension and glued it.

There are 2 separate kits. One is 1/150 scale and is the easy click system, and one is 1/72 scale, which requires paint and glue.

I am currently working on it aswell, and i love it mostly. There is just one big detail which is completly wrong on the Kit and makes her kinda different from the original Ship, which i find is kinda sad. The part in question is very easily visible at 1:14 (it get´s implemented very early in the build - at step 3) I am talking about the Wall/door to the Capitan´s room, which is sadly not the correct form. In the movies it´s a straight wall with a big double door and windowds aswell as deko on either side The top is then an Balkony, which overhangs over the door in this round form. But apart from that misstake, i realy love the kit.

Yeah, I thought about using foam to rebuild that piece, but I have no carving skills, so I decided to just use that piece as it is mostly obscured by the sails when the model is completed. The steps leading up to the wheel are also incorrect, and it is missing the Main Top Stay Sail. (A second sail between the foremast and mainmast) While I was disappointed that it had these inaccuracies, it is the most accurate Black Pearl I could find, and it still looks incredible when it's completed. I wish you luck on yours.

@ukrje Well, yes you could say that. But then you would still see the sail bunched up in the rigging if it weren't in use. The missing sail was my big issue with it. more so than the wall and the doors.

did you have a problem sticking with the paint or did the glue get well? Because I hesitate to paint all pieces before sticking them. And well done for your ship !

I used Testors Flat Black Spray, about 4 cans. The paint dissolved when I applied the glue. I sprayed the black paint into a paper cup, and used a brush for touching up where the glue dissolved the paint.

Thank you so much! I don't know what to say about the rigging other than I followed the directions. I tied it to the sails before attaching them to the masts and then ran it down to the deck. I tied a few knots around the knobs and then kept them tight with clips that I hung off of the side. Then, I put glue on it and waited for it to dry.

I built this during Feb break from school, and during the coronavirus closure, so I spent all of my free time on it. The rigging probably took me about 2/3 of the total time spent working on it.

This was my first model I've ever built, so I don't think you could be any more of a noob than I was when I started. There were a few moments where I had to study the picture, or ask someone else about it, but other than that fairly easy to understand.

Hi, I have a problem on step 40. For version 1, parts No. I5, I4 and I12 arr only available 8x out of 12 barrels. Did you encounter the same problem ?

I am sorry my response to your problem has taken so long; I had to search for the instructions. Yes, I did encounter the same problem on both the Revell and Zvezda Black Pearl kits. My solution was to use the parts for version 2 on the 2 barrels underneath the stairways up to the wheel.

how does this compare to the revell 1:150 snap tite? Is the quality a significant diff?

I have not built the 1:150 scale, so I cannot definitively give you an answer, but based on videos I have seen regarding that model this appears to be significantly more detailed, and there appears to be no rigging on the snap tite model.

Hi. Can I ask the size of the model once built? I have seen people say 50cm long and 47cm tall, but I am unsure if that's on the stand or not. Also, how wide is it at its widest point? Thanks

With the stand it is 50cm tall, 47cm tall without the stand. It is about 54cm long, and the width of the hull is ~12cm, and the width with the sails is 23cm wide

I looked into buying this because I love the whole POTC franchise. But it's listed for around 200 dollars. 200 dollars for a plastic model. You can buy models made of wood for 200 dollars. Granted, they aren't elaborate and highly detailed models, but they are models made of wood. I don't know how Revell/Zvezda can justify asking 200 dollars for plastic. As I'm writing this I can go down to Hobby Town in my area and buy a Revell model of the U.S.S. Constitution that's more detailed than this model and pay $90.00 dollars. No offensive to Flashlrm 15, you did an outstanding job. I just think it's too expensive for plastic.

If you spend 500 dollars on a nice wooden ship that takes a year to build, and some are so complex that a year is about right, you've only spent 500 dollars on your hobby for a whole year. This is a bizarre engineering design for a plastic model ship. It harkens back to the older Revell designs for the "English Man O' War" and the Spanish Galleon. Building up the hull cuts down on mold design costs but makes for a "tricky" build with plenty of opportunities for "missteps" and bad joins. Be prepared...this is not a beginner's kit.
