Carousel radius 55 meters. The thickness of the ice is 0.5 meters Carousel volume: V = π r^2 h = 4750 cubic meters The weight of a cubic centimeter of ice is 0.917 grams Hence the weight of the carousel is 4350 kilograms !! Almost 4 and a half Ton!

Not well thought out. I'm sure they thought they had it covered, but something this size needs a bit of engineering input. They were very lucky that no one died. And results were not optimum to say the least. In fact, since they didn't show it actually spinning, I'd guess it was a fail. Next time they should all just chip in 20 bucks to feed the starving children of Minnesota. I'm sure there are millions of them. Doing it for fun is okay; no excuse needed.

@@tme3058 Well, the payoff shot usually has everyone clustered around the edge as the ice spins. Didn't see that, so it probably didn't happen. What we saw was the ice moving just for a moment. That doesn't constitute spinning in my opinion.
