Absolutely beautiful! As usual you've create another masterpiece. I only hope that mine will be as good as yours when I finish it (1/32nd scale Revell F-4J II) and put it on display. I've learned a lot of things about supplies and tools that people use to get the job done. Sadly I've had to resort to making my own tools many times as there is nothing out there that can do everything and many of those tools are highly overpriced for what they are!! I bought a cheap bastard air compressor and airbrush combo off evilbay and haven't used it yet but this spring I hope to soon! I appreciate anyone that uses an airbrush to go that extra mile but I use spray cans to do primer and sometimes paint as I have been doing this for over forty years and I've developed every technique known to man to do this and I'm still amazed at that quality that even the most simplest techniques can produce. Thank you for sharing this with us to enjoy!!

Nice job on the bird guy ! Please don't take what I'm gona say personally ! I worked on F4s for 10 years during Nam, USAF (E6 Avionics Tech). A lot of modelers get a little too carried away with the panel line, smoke, grease and dirt washes ! None of our birds ever looked that dirty (may have been nicked up with some schrapnel or round damage) if they did our Wing Commander would have had a Shit Fit 😮 Just a Heads Up, Siera Hotel 👍

Is this a modern way of glueing a model together? I mean, back in the day we used to glue the inside of the parts and then stick them together. Instead here i see the model being put together and then glued from the outside. We always felt that this way it doesn't bond too well. But maybe time showed us that this way is better, it certainly makes it a lot easier to assemble. Beautifully made by the way, absolutely!

One more fantastic video for a fantastic result. Congratulations One question please : You used Alclad Chrome on bare plastic without primer on the horizontal stabilizers. Did you had any problem? I forgot the primer once and the plastic melted. It had been hard to recover a safe surface... One remark: I agree 200 % with you about oil wash. I tried once with lighter fluid. It works perfectly. Now, I use petrol F with same results and easier to find. The oil paint allow cheap infinite combination Once again, congralulations. Wonderful paint and wonderful idea for the checkerboard
@Scaleaton6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I have applied Alclad on bare plastic because of I made some paint chipping and weathering with wet sanding paper. Primers will cause problems during this process. I never have any problem with Alclad on bare plastic. I also recommend to use sanding papers on bare plastic 1200 to 2000 grit and apply a few times compound then Alclad Chrome and wipe with velvet for mirror like finish. This method way better than using any primers. Just do not use a thinner and do not apply the paint wet. Cheers!

BEAUTIFUL work!! Dad was a mech on F-4's. He cussed them everyday! Love the ol HAWGS myself! No better sound than J-79's in full AB! Anyway, I'm new to airbrushing. What's the reason for thinning with isopropyl alcohol? Why not just use regular thinner??
@simonwaite58156 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your work, the results are fantastic. Can you clarify your painting/ weathering technique for me? You seem to put a darker base down, and then mottle white concentrating more on some panels, then a slightly lighter shade of the base color over the top? Cheers SImon
@Scaleaton6 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, it's a advanced preshading technique using shades of the base color instead of black/white. The key is layers should be transparent enough. You will find out after a few try that on plastic bottles. Cheers!

I keep watching your work, and thanks for the replies. I just tried out the 3 color SEA scheme using blutac and a .3mm airbrush needle. Does the blutac leave a stain sometimes? Also, do you ever freehand the camo pattern with the .2mm brush? I bought a cheap Master G44 .2mm brush, but it splatters and or clogs. Maybe I don't have the hang of it yet.
@Plydrms4 жыл бұрын
I'm a big fan and want to do the S.E. Asia camo scheme as well. I was curious why you do not like black basing the under coat first. After you apply each color you mottle with white, then re-apply each color thinned out. Could you mottle over the gray primer with white first, then apply the camo coat? I'm not criticizing your technique, just trying to learn...thank you so much.
@Scaleaton4 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's all about eye delusion. More color tones provide a more realistic look. We can divide it into two, not just any basing: post shade and pre shade. Basing with black or any color is an pre shading technique. I prefer post shading with multiple colors not only white. I use lighter green tones for example not only white. I hope that's more clear.
@Plydrms4 жыл бұрын
@@Scaleaton I actually think that your method looks better. I think that I will try it. I did one dirty low viz gray Tomcat. The black basing seemed to suit that scheme. I think faded camo looks better the way that you approached it..

Amazing build Sir! Have you ever done a tutorial on how you do your colors, especially regarding the white marbling over the base color. A really interesting way to make randomization and interesting vibrations in the color scheme. I tend to black base myself, but wondering if this is “better”.
@Scaleaton6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Black basing technique is quite effective but after a while you start to repeat the same thing all the time then you expect different results. In my technique white is not actually white. I apply white on the base color then it turn very pale version of the base color not white. This is why my technique not works on gray and black paints very well. I pick darker and lighter tones randomly from my stash. More information about optical illusion of color tones is here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checker_shadow_illusion
@hreple6 жыл бұрын
Well, I really like your "take" on it, and I think I have to give it a go. I've been black basing and marble coating 3-4 models now and they look better than one color coverage, but I still probably want "more" and I love how you make your models look. Keep up the great work!

I love to see your really outstanding videos and the way, you work on the kits... to get to the effects, you want to archive - fantastic! Yesterday I tried to brush the white meander ("fret") (minute 24 to 25) with vallejo white and IPA - but this mixture doesn't work because both of the liquids mix with each other ... you get little white "flakes" liquid" ^^ I suppose, you need IPA to get a fast drying liquid?
