Great video. Could almost be used as a complete step by step aid for DIY. Chuck a soffit flashing animation in there for the high side raking soffit with a bit more window detail and they're legit closed in.

I just enrolled in a Quantity Surveying degree and I gotta tell you it is not easy for a rookie like me to visually imagine all the steps and parts that take to build up a house in accordance with NZS3604. But coming across your video does help me a lot!

Thank you! I am glad you find the videos helpful. I like to break things down into little steps to understand them. NZS3604 could be overwhelming when you start learning it. But once you use it few times in your projects, it becomes more understandable.

@@3dkiwi920 thanks! I started putting together cabin plans 3 years ago. I have plans of developing more sizes and options. Also, from next year there will be new rules for building granny flats under 60sqm without a building consent. Although they have not given the exact limits yet, but being designed by an lbp designer is one of the requirements. That will open up a lot of possibilities and it is very exciting. I’m a lbp designer and I hope to be able to develop a big library of plans for DIYers one day ☺️

@@webslingernz If you want to build it as a home (including plumbing), a building consent is required. You might also need a resource consent depending on your property. A building consent package starts at $2500+GST. You can build it yourself under owner-builder exemption (except the electrical and plumbing work). If you want to build just the cabin without the plumbing, and you meet the conditions of section 2.2 of the building exemptions, you can buy the plans on trademe for $450. Hi, thanks for the insight.. I'm in NZ, contemplating how to use my saving on a place to call; my own.. Thinking, two 6m open side shipping containers conjoined giving me one large 6m x 6m room.. Replacing the doors with glass & allowing for eves to over hang with the use of metal sandwich insulated panel roof as well as using this same panel for full hight external wall cladding, wanting to go up two stores high ie.. I was wanting to place the whole thing on top of a pair of steel I beams at ether end along with 90mm hollow square steel post.. being lifted ( allowing for a car to be parked underneath/garage or carport ) Just that.. seen the above dwelling on a step slopping section, whereby one end is at ground level anchored onto a cement slap used for a carport & the other end is sitting on a single steel beam been held up by two 3m high steel posts. so what's the differents.. Would lifting this dwelling change the limited allowed 30 square meterage in NZ without need for consent.

Hi. You definitely need a building consent to do this. It is best to involve an architect who has experience with shipping containers as it is not within the building code. Also, it is not going to be cheap.

Yes, I do. But they are not down to every single screw. They are approximately accurate and done by myself, not a quantity surveyor.

Hi Tony. Thanks for you comment. The 30sqm applies to the net area, not the gross area. It means the internal area should be under 30sqm. This can be confusing for some.
