Set up in the urban sprawl of Bangalore, this contemporary family home basks in the rustic tones of terracotta, fronted by a striking brick jali. It sits on a 2,400 sq. ft. plot and has three levels and is crafted organically in a minimal theme to induce a timeless blend of past and present.
The ground floor serves as its own independent 2-bedroom house, and could potentially be rented out in the future. The client’s main home comprises the first and second floors and is accessed by an exterior single-flight staircase. Brick is the primary material in the palette and is complemented with mud plaster, Kota stone, and splashes of warm Burma teak wood. Concrete and cement oxide structures are left true-to-form, and all-metal fixtures are naturally rusted to create an earthy, textured finish.
Principal Architect Ninu Ahluwalia recounts the planning and detailing of this earthy home with a built-up area of 3,500 sq.ft., as it attempts to create its own oasis in a dense urban neighborhood.
