I'd love to get my hands on that GPU-z log file. It appears that the power jump from idle to load was roughly 50% for both voltage divider circuits. This may indicate that the card's TDP display might be an average of the power consumption from PSENS_high and PSENS_low (where PSENS_low is given by a power sensing shunt somewhere else on the PCB).

The unexpectedly high overall TDP reading might be based on what is reported for draw from the PCIe slot and the logic balancing that draw in the BIOS. I experienced something similar on a GTX 970; even with lower resistance shunts on the 6 and 8 pin it would still power limit at a reported ~60% overall TDP in GPUz until the BIOS was modified such that the lower limit for PCIe was set to the same value as max limit. Not sure what would be required to actually bypass that now since BIOS mods are out of the question for Pascal and newer. I'd imagine a rather thick wire would be required to feed that 75 amp plane from one of the 8 pins?
@bernhardscher6865 жыл бұрын
Replacing the 2 shunts desoldered in the video with 3 mOhm resistors raises the powerlimit to around 420 W according to the owners thread at ocnet. So at least this method seems to work by just modifying said 2 shunts.

Starts hitting power limit and down clocking and will do that to black screen if you keep pushing it. Could it be vrm issues? Getting too hot and thermally protecting. Highest power draw I saw was 350w @ 1.05v to the card. Card temp was 57c for extended usage like gaming.

Maybe Nvidia is now also looking at the current ratio draw between the PCIe slot rail and 8-pin rails so it's drawing current at a monitored ratio from the PCIe slot as well. So how about doing the same voltage divider mod on the PCIe slot shunt __and__ also wiring the 12V pad from that shunt to the 12V line on one of the 8-pin rails (that way the pad for the PCIe slot shunt is actually drawing current from the 8-pin rail rather than from the actual PCIe slot 12V rail). Or even wire that slot shunt pad directly to a 3rd 8-pin connector, so it can draw as much as it wants from it's own connector separate from the other 8-pin connectors plugged into the card.

So ive been attempting to learn about the hardware few months ago put a kraken g12/x42 aio on my 1080 and i theorise it its either Vbios has some sort of shunt temperature monitoring (after finding out shunts are inaccurate under heat) after flashing my msi 1080 to the strix unlocked bios, msi seahawk ek Vbios, they reacted different and i started with armor Vbios bringing memory and choke/cap area of phases temps from 70C and i hit the same high clock but my thermoprobes now sit at 45c-50c after firestrike stresstest and ive stopped the throttling on mem and vrm area and im improving scores but gaming/VR is flawless. I wonder if there is alternate Vbios options set to monitor other temps, now more aggressive with RTX. Im slow with hardware i only got a 1080 less than a year ago so budget has always been an issue here too. But my card used to hit a similar "imaginary" limit but MSI AB said not voltage or power.
@alien_man16695 жыл бұрын
i hade to run a command for msi ab to change tdp, makes me think theres more ways it knows how many wats its pulling since i wasted time flashing different power limit same vendor, which i wonder if drivers know i put the same card in and it wouldnt change until i ran nvidia-smi -p1 291"my current tdp". or not using old driver install from geforce but used express install instead, since manual also.has had issues ... i havent tested enough to be sure. I hope i am understanding how this works and making sense

Did you work out the trick to increase the the 1.068-1.093 max voltage? Found after doing the quick trick and rigging up a 16pin to 8pin adapter to each of the inputs having 600w+75w pcie on tap, gpu boost disabled but 88degree TDP still in place. with my water cooling it almost doubled the performance of the 2080ti. The vrms and supporting 'infrastructure' on the PCB for the 2080ti is overkill and the best of any card. Weird using it instead of my 3080 as a main, but +1500 mem and - 3000+ core it crushes anything still. Poor underclocked cards. Especially those ones with under a 300w power limit!
