Dang. Wish someone would do a full vid on the conversion. Mine is a 79 with a 300, 4pd, 4x4. Hear I'd have to go to a hydraulic clutch, weld some bracket on my firewall... idk. I know that is an offy intake. What breather is that?
@bearsendproductions18436 жыл бұрын
you really don't need a video on this one because its very basic. your clutch is the same you might need to put a hydraulic peddle set up in as the zf is hydraulic and you will have to move the rear trans mount back 2 inches the front drive line is sourced from the junk yard it is common. the rear is not because the later model ie shorter shaft is slip yoke and yours is not so it will need to be cut 2 inches. everything fits and I would rate this swap as a 1 out of 10 for difficulty 10 being the most difficult swap.

Describe how the internal slave hooks up to the 1985 clutch cylinder just different connections. Did you have to modify anything on the hump in the cab to get the zf in.
@bearsendproductions18436 жыл бұрын
Same hook up on the master but the slave takes a different hook up just get the line for a newer 89- 95 5speed and it is plug and play. No modification for the firewall but you will need the newer style trans tunnel 89-95 it just bolts in. Hope this helps

Nice! Yeah, I've got this project on my list, I've got an 84 F150 long bed single cab 4x4 4speed with a 351 that I'd like to swap to a ZF-5 soon. Moved part of my business and a couple of personal vehicles like this one down to Texas from Washington State, and it turns out.. the speed limits have gone WAY up since growing up in Texas. Everyone drives like they're at Talledega. It's crazy. So I"m thinking an overdrive gear might be a good thing, the truck is nice and clean and heck, the AC even works!

Thanks for posting ! The clutch pedal is really hard to push in on my 4 speed F-150. Is it any easier to push the clutch in with the ZF-5 ?
@xon20135 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of older transmissions are like this. My brother has a 68 F250 with an NP435, mechanical linkage, it's pretty hard to press and get use to. I got an 86 F150 with what I believe is a T18, is a little bit lighter to press but not really easy like modern clutches. I test drove a 2012 Kia Soul with a manual transmission, and pressing the clutch was like pressing the gas pedal lol
@fastpat14 жыл бұрын
The transmission type has nothing to do with the clutch actuation stiffness. Is your set up stock?
@amlafrance19184 жыл бұрын
I Did the ZF conversion and I can push the clutch in with my hand. The T-18 had an external slave cylinder and didn’t help with pushing in the clutch. Was the most difficult clutch pedal I’ve ever used. Nice the have the extra gear as well. Does suck that I will have to drop the gearbox to replace the slave cylinder tho. But worth it to save my knee.

@edspencer71216 жыл бұрын
Bear's End Productions that would be a 6000 series tractor. I would measure up all points concerning bell housing, engine mount bosses, starter mount position. If it looks like will bolt up(like I said the flywheel for the diesel would definitely have to come into play) the gas starter may not work with the diesel. You may have to go with the tractor starter. Another thing to keep in mind is this is not a high reving engine, I believe 2150 to 2300 rpms top.
