This update finally has me using VRC's gesture toggle! Mapping it to a controller thumbstick click makes it easy to swap to hand tracking without making weird faces.

One thing that people need to know is that the Estimation done by VD is magic. Try standing with your body weight on one foot. IT KNOWS. HOW? And when you weight transfer to the other foot, IT DOES IT TOO. HOW???

I used the new of virtual desktop for elbow and shoulder tracking and combine them with my 6 slime trackers (ankle, thigh, hip and chest). This is fcking good and had a good experience with them.

I am not much of a VRChat player. I am more of a dweller while I listen to music or use my computer. This is nice for people like me that don't really need all the fancy tracking for dancing or doing silly stuff, since all I do is sit around and learn programming or watch videos. I was thinking about buying the vive ultimate trackers but it looks like there is no need for that anymore. Thanks for sharing!

For silly stuff yeah this is not needed but for dancing this method really isn't it because it "Estimate" what position you are supposed to be. So anything a bit too fast or out of the normal positions that we usually are in tends to get wonky. But for a standard daily use yeah it is a good solution Tho i'm really impressed of the upperbody tracking part tho

Quest 3 does a good job estimating the upper body postures, but is still not reliable for the lower body, which is fairly understandable as it's just more likely for the lower body to go partly or completely out of sight. In the Slime VR discord, people have successfully used 4 slimer trackers to make up for laps and ankles in combination with the quest estimation in virtual desktop and so far I find it the most balanced setup for both cost and quality. If only quest 3 has eye tracking, quest could be the most economical approach to new vtubers.

You can move with just hands you gotta do a pinch motion i think on the left hand with the thumb and middle or index finger and "push" forward while holding the motion. There are videos on that here on YT. But glad to see that this is finally possible via PC VR :D

I believe it emulates index controllers but only the finger tracking portion. Therefore you do not have a control stick. You are not sending actual quest hand tracking data into VR chat

Works quite well with 3 trackers for lower body, upper body has a bit of latency compared to trackers but you save money not buying 6 for full upper and lower body tracking.

It definitely seems like this style of tracking could easily replace chest and elbow trackers for a lot of people. The option of just adding the ankle and hip through other FBT trackers easily cuts the entry cost for decent FBT

One thing i keep seeing people say is that if you've already got base station tracking and wanna get more trackers, just keep getting base station trackers since you've already got the base stations. I got IMUs mixed with base stations until the IMUs started creating more cons than pros at some point. Now Im planning on getting more base station trackers

im 6 month late but for finger tracking there's a new steamVR beta or something that you can opt in to and get the steam link beta on the quest standalone and link it. you pretty much get hand tracking. literally hand tracking they just show you HANDS on steamVR. not index controller. but HANDS. idk if you already know this but just lettin u know. edit: and you can move your character.

It honestly is really nice for people who don't already have trackers, but I wonder if Standable's update (soon) outperforms it. If you're looking at mixing the tracking with actual fullbody, I'd go with Standable, since you can actually disable specific trackers, and the new update will be focusing on that mixed tracking

I'm not sure it really uses any actual tracking. Like it's not using visual data to gauge where your legs/arms are. It's just using math to figure out where your legs/arms should be based on how you are moving your head and hands. It's really cool and a lot better than the default tracking but it's still not a comparable replacement to fbt. I wish I could use it over a link cable though.

Have you noticed if this feature affects battery life at all? I love playing wirelessly, but I have to keep features like passthrough turned off to get the most of out my headset battery even with an external battery. Being able to use the Quest 3's upper arm tracking alongside my own trackers without any drawbacks would be amazing!

They are already making updates for using meta controllers and fingers same time so soon you can move and use every finger without problems. AI legs also coming at some point. And I wonder if Meta quest pro controllers will allow players to use the hand tracking better when using combined controlling (controllers + hand tracking fingers) because those have own sensors in them and don't rely on meta cameras only. So instead of using 500 bucks on trackers, soon you can spend that on pro controllers and have almost same tracking quality as with trackers but with better hand tracking.

Quest 3 works with Index controllers, just get these special dangles for index controllers, open vr space calibrator, ya May need base stations (might not need) and boom, quest 3 with index works sweeeet I use quest 3, Vive trackers, index controllers. Three brands in one fox xD

I mean I don't think the tracking on Quest 3 will be better than slimes. You have to remember it's still estimating half of your body. But at the same time, you don't need to charge and attach a bunch of accessories. You get way better lenses and screens. Wifi 6e connectivity and a faster chipset, which at the end of the day means that regardless of how you use it, you'll have both more stable wireless pcvr (because of the wifi 6e) and better standalone performance (because of the Snapdragon XR2). So it's a complicated question. My opinion, I went ahead and got Q3 on release and I can't really go back to the 2 simply for the lenses alone. but if you really want better tracking, and you'll be disappointed with estimations, you might be better off with slimes.
