Honest question and something that I have always wanted to know, What do the people of Japan think of Massaki Hatsumi and how is he regarded? And, does anyone ever seriously wonder if that whole "Way of the Ninja" thing is a money making scam to troll gullible westerners. EDIT: No disrespect intended to any practitioners.

@@righteousshadowsdojopt.3979 No he isn't. "Dr. Hatsumi was asked many years ago to provide documentation of some of his lineage for admittance to the Kobudo Shinkokai, perhaps the most reliable of the major organizations of traditional Japanese martial arts, and according to Donn Draeger, in a conversation to me, he was not able to provide documentation which proved his lineage to their satisfaction. Thus, there are uncertain areas in Dr. Hatsumi's lineage." "Dr. Friday: These are just 3 out of 9. Problem is that if he is the 34th soke it means logically that there where 33 more sokes before him. If this school were a modern one it means they'd have to switch every almost three years which didn't happen. That might be persuasive logic if there were any documentation to substantiate Hatsumi's claim to 33 predecessors. But there is none--as I noted earlier, no document for the Togakure-ryu that predates the Meiji period (or rather, none that survived the scrutiny of independent experts) (see 2 above, my insert). Moreover, the genealogies claimed by Hatsumi (and by his teacher Takamatsu To*****ugu) are highly suspect."
@benzo80o.c828 ай бұрын
Apparently there is no Ninjutsu actually taught in the bujinkan..there basically samurai ju jutsu schools..and even their lineage is questionable since hatsumi has never officially given proof of lineages..

@@counterpoint751 As a student of Ninjutsu for over 9 years my comments do matter. I then became a soldier, studying Krav my whole military career, decorated from West African tours and now a Shotokan student. A kyu grade in budo karate could pick apart, identify weakness and destroy a Ninjutsu black belt. Go study Kurihara or Kagawa's strikes and kicks and come back to me. Yes they are ancient techniques but the application has to be completed correctly and with zanshin. Watch their feet in this video, they haven't a clue. It should be clear consistent footwork every single time.

There is hardly any mention of fighting at all in the historical texts.
