In Virginia it’s still cold and rainy. My black coral is coming up, but the unfurled leaves are quite dark immediately only with a slight amount of green as they open.

Hello! Have just discovered your channel & absolutely thrilled that you’ve grown this beautiful plant from bulb! Your content & enthusiasm is brilliant! Have just located a nursery that has a colocasia black magic (velvety black foliage). Looking forward to having one in the house! Cheers!

Are the leaves on your plant at the moment the same leaves that first emerged and they've grown a lot, or does it grow small leaves first and over time grow new big leaves? It's a stunning plant! 🖤

Looks like a black corral to me since the leaves are shiny and not rippled. I have a black beauty and the leaves are not completely black but black patches with green veining. You have a lovely colocasia.

I just looked that up. You're right. It does look like that. There are so many different variations now its hard to keep up! The package said black beauty 🤷🏻♀️

I said the same thing before you said it. I thought that it was cute too! I love unique things. But yes, it's very cute like that, it has character. That's interesting, as I am looking at your growth timeline albeit I have a different variety, as soon as I planted mine they begain to grow. In the following week it was sprouting. Three weeks later it was already more than three feet tall and my pot is much smaller. I'll be transplanting it into a larger pot this week, hence how I found your channel. FYI, I'm growing it inside under mostly artificial lightning. I think the variety is the Mammoth. Next year, by God's grace I will get a couple of different varieties. I would love a variegated and one with pink hues. Lovely one that you have there. Looking forward to an update.🪴

I live in coastal Virginia and planted an elephant ear in an outdoor pot last summer. Because of the weight of the pot I left it outside all winter. Do you think the bulb froze or should it come back up?
@maribellerma77173 жыл бұрын
I think I may have overwatered mine... 🙄 I planted three of them in separate pots two in terracotta pots and one in a plastic pot. Only one of them in a terracotta pot is growing. Although, I did notice a little growth on one of them tho. (the one in plastic pot) Can I let it dry out before I start watering again? It has also rained a little. I am in San Antonio, TX

I really love watching your show. I have NEVER been a plant grower (iI use to kill them, evand now I am really getting into it and I love it. I had some elephant ears that were gifted to me to be replanted and is it good to water propagate them??? Please help.
@rosettagrows33154 жыл бұрын
Hi Ava! Water propagating doesn't really work on Elephant ears. What you can do is dig them up and separate them at the root ball (bulb or corm) level. Connect with me over on Instagram or Facebook and I'll try to give you more direction!

So how many times a week did you water the bulbs and how much water? Im trying to plant threr small bulbs in one big pot please lmk thanks!!
@rosettagrows33154 жыл бұрын
Hey. So sorry for the late reply. Your comment was hidden for some reason. At first, I just gently watered once a week, mostly to keep the vinca watered and then just a little over the top of the bulb, just wetting the soil. As it grew and gave off more leaves I watered the whole plant more deeply. Now it gets a heavy drink, watering the whole pot, once a week.

If yall have a Pikes Nursery out there or any big box nursery should have a few varieties of elephant ears. You can also get them at most Home Depot's and Lowe's, sometimes they'll only have the regular ones, but I got my black coral from Lowes 2 years ago. If you have a big nursery by you run in and check there, our local Pikes doesn't usually get anything exciting, and I just picked up the white lava, mojito, and a ruffled variety yesterday. I was kind of super excited about the white lava, I figured I'd have to get my dad to send me some from Florida, but we had them!

Do u think they can survive indoors with indirct light
@rosettagrows33154 жыл бұрын
Yes, if it is very bright. Here in the Northern hemisphere, that would likely be in or very near a southern window. Mine get direct sun for a couple hours. Yours might not get this dark indoors.

I planted my bulb in a pot on the 27th of may but I don’t see any action 😢😢😢. I planted a regular green one and I saw sprout in 3 weeks. Same size pot and same type of soil.

Does these bulbs come from the edible taro root plant?
@Gee54253 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I wonder! I've heard people call them the taro plant before, I never knew where they came from. Interesting, I'll have to google that, I never put the two together.🤪

@rosettagrows33154 жыл бұрын
Depending on where you live these might be hard to find throughout the year. Bulbs are generally easier to find in late winter here in CA. Most plant nurseries sell bulbs at that time of year because that is when they are easiest to plant.
@jungevonnebenan54974 жыл бұрын

Would you recommend to bulbs in one pot???
@rosettagrows33154 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't! They like a ton of room to spread out. I actually recommend splitting them yearly because Elephant Ears need a bunch of room, otherwise they leaves start to get smaller and smaller.
