Scary flying on Russian commercial aircraft back then, I did so back in the 1980s in Communist China where the "hostesses" were Communist Comrades, the FOOD were dry sandwiches in paper bags with NO condiments and the soft drinks were some Chinese concoction that they said was "like" Coca Cola.....NOT! At ~500 dollars per shell, that's ~375 000 artillery shells. Or about 60 days worth of Ukrainian usage. (Of course, as it ex-soviet shells - it is actually _more_ useful that NATO artillery ammunition, as the bulk of Ukrainian artillery are ex-soviet weapons and _very_ low on ammunition.)

I guess the Bulgarian wishes to clear its entire ammunition stockpiles from Soviet standards and change completely to NATO standards. The best way is to do it in one single swap. Bulgaria certainly has very large quantities of Soviet ammunition in its stocks. Until 1990, the armed forces of Bulgaria were completely equipped by the Soviet Union. The old Soviet howitzers of Ukraine need ammunition, and the Soviet BM21 rocket launchers and the Soviet tanks of Ukraine. The Soviet weapon systems are not as accurate as the weapon systems supplied by the West, but they still have a lethal effect.

Excellent comment 👍👍The only 'negative' about this old ammo (..which a Ukrainian soldier mentioned in a video I watched..) is that old Soviet-era ammunition can to be more inaccurate & will have a slightly higher chance of being a 'dud', nevertheless it will be very helpful. 🤔

Actually, we do not have a lot of russian ammunitions. Storing so many weaponry is expensive and we have a very tiny military budget. For example, at the moment we have only 2 fighter jets. Even before 1989 we did not have much - the military strategy was to resist for 8 hours in case of a turkish attack. After this time, USSR would be able to send us thousands or soldiers, tanks, jets, etc. and they will replace our army :) What we have now is a relatively huge ability to produce ammunitions, most of them are still soviet style. If i am not wrong, one of the 155mm projectiles which Ukraine uses can be produced only in Bulgaria now.
