This is the best and most sensible episode ever, because we‘re imitating nature in our little homereef which has evolved millions of years. So our goal has to be keeping our animals in a habitat like in nature. There is so much information behind it, so I think this is absolutely the best way we should run for to keep things like in ocean 🌊 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 Depisreef

I 100% agree with Joe, if you keep a marine aquarium, get out there and see it in the wild every chance you get. And, you do not need to become a certified diver to do it. Some of the most interesting stuff to see is in the shallowest waters, so snorkeling is enough for most people to really see some great stuff. In fact, I have been often disappointed when going on chartered dive trips as the group spends a lot of their time higher off the reef, moving along at a good pace, often looking for larger species, and ignoring the small flora and fauna that can only be seen when you are close up and spending time in one place watching small animal behaviors -- tiny reef fish and inverts. Bravo for bringing this to life. I think one suggestion to these talks is to try and intersperse personal video(s) from the host and guest to illustrate certain things and bring real world personal visuals to the discussion.

Great discussion! Unique is one of my LFS and I always enjoy talking with Joe whenever he’s around (as well as the other guys in the shop). I really enjoyed the part about flow, which is one of the most important things we can improve upon. Looking forward to the future episodes. Cheers!

Thank you for your talks and research series! I am a brand new reefer! And to be honest it’s a bit stressful not to learn how it has to be done, but hear from old school aquariumnists who are stuck in their ways, that I overcomplicate things and “it all worked for us, just do it like it has been done for years”. Take life stone, don’t bother with quarantine, just get average light it all works the same. 🤦🏼‍♀️ So in that regard I think all this info might soak into brand new reefers more than into some experienced

flat worm solution you treat it at at least double recommended dose keep enough on had for a second dose and dose again if you start seeing them again, after that they'll be gone

Interesting, my reef is struggling to avoid 0/0 and i am running fleece, skimmer and chaeto. Up until now my strategy has been to reduce the intensity of the fuge. But after this i will try to disconnect the fleece and up the intensity of the fuge instead

Great interview! I wish it wasn’t blasphemy to think we could learn something from freshwater aquarists. I’ve worked through several problems in my reef by thinking about it like I would think about one of my freshwater tanks.

Totally. Fresh water planted tanks that mimic natural environments are my favorite. You have to pick fish in the right ph and temperament. You can’t just throw random fish together. I have a book somewhere.

They talk about marine snow. Algaebarn advertisers pnsyello as that. How close is that product to snow and how beneficial?

with this increased growth couldn't it cause burnt tips and thin tissue? I feel even with perfect feeding, lighting, and flow, they'll have this at some degree and in most cases it isn't worth it

while I really appreciate and get a lot out of your content I wish you would quit making this comment about skipping your wife to look at the tank. if I could sum that comment up it sounds like the goal is to skip pretty object #1 and go straight to pretty object #2. Don’t think I have to explain how cringey sexist it is when laid out like that. also I’m a cisgender mostly straight woman, so I don’t have a wife, and never say never but will probably never have a wife. when you make sexist comments that are clearly assuming your audience is just straight dudes it is really off putting to people who aren’t either of these. the aquarium hobby and particularly the reef hobby is already male dominated enough without leaning in to that. that’s something to work on not double down on with your messaging

Very Interesting @1:14 when Ryan was listing Joe's business interests he did not mention that Joe is also selling Dalua and Illumagic products. It's ok if he told Joe ahead of time that he wouldn't say anything about certain products, but if he looked Joe in the face and withheld certain brands without telling him ahead of time that it would be that way, it would be a pretty low thing to do.
