Dana Riddle, a passionate man who dedicates much of his time and resources to understanding corals. He communicates his findings in a clear fashion, freely available to all who want to learn. I see in him a lot of myself, him being a generation before me :-). Good luck with your coral lab, Dana! I hope to finish mine this summer. Let's all appreciate Dana's passion and hard work. Mahalo! - Tim

wow so much to digest in one presentation. That's what I like about reefing the science behind it.

Can't believe I missed this at macna. Good thing the BRS Crew was on top of it. I have a low nutrient system with my alk at 7.6 and was always afraid to raise it because of all burn. I might just raise my lights up and bit and try. Thanks for the vid!

I can't wait until Par meters become more accurate and reasonably priced in the hobby so I can start recommending that my customers buy them. I'll be getting one soon but even then that's after close to 10 years of reefing. Being able to sell a tank set up and include Par meters into the purchase will be a huge step forward for this hobby. Thanks again BRS for providing the opportunity to listen to these talks to us hobbyists that can't attend MACNA.

Great video and presentation on the combination that produces growth. Can change your perspective on how to get good growth and color and the holes we encounter on a daily basis.

This great video just came up in my feed - my question now is - based on this right here, the 10 minute to about the 15 minute mark talking about PAR and photosynthesis - why is this hobby and even @BRStv themselves so obsessed with PAR levels for SPS above 300?? I had one store owner tell me when of the corals I was buying required PAR 500-600 - it hasn't grown at all and I am wondering if it has been getting too much light. This video right here should be pinned to the top of BRStv list - it just came up in my feed.

I kinda took these talks for granted, but I just realized how amazing it is that I have excess to this information from all the way across the big pomd. Thanks brs!

Great video, good science, and numbers! As I have said before I have as much flow in my tank as possible. I might have too much light however. I think I will try to lower my light level by 20% and see how that affects my corals for a few weeks.

Must know info...thanks Ryan at BRS for pointing this vid out from another recent vid. I don't know how this one slipped through but I'm glad I watched it. Made some changes to my system already and sure to see some benefits.

For high flow, does the consistence of the flow matters? Like constant speed vs wavemaker patterns. Is it count the average flow, or max flow, or something else? How to understand this in various flow speed condition?

Chlorophyll, more like borophyll. In all seriousness, I'm really surprised where his tests showed the ideal par levels to be. I just turned my LEDs up yesterday. Maybe I should turn them back down and borrow a par meter.

So low to med par levels-high alk levels-high flow=better photosynthesis...what about med to high par-low alk-low flow ???🤔 is that possible???

7:43 so basically more coloration means less growth? Maybe I want to dull the lights for color?

Hey BRS team I have a HUGE hair algae issue for the past 3 months. I've tried everything from pads to remove phosphates and nitrates and I tries chemicals that claim they remove algae, and still no results or improvements. I even left the lights off and still, the algae turned to a semi-brown color but it won't go. Now what can I do to remove it

Interesting i thought you need 500 + par just to keep some sps alive but guess not :)

Is he suggesting mid 200s par levels with sps would increase growth vs above 400 par levels? With only certain species of corals? Believe I'm having trouble with coral growth at that par level (300) and people have mentioned to me that I need more par for sps corals to thrive and grow alk 8.0, Ca 420, mg 1600, ph 7.8 they are stable nitrate 1-5 p04 0.01, I run xr 15 gen 3 pro AB+ coral lab schedule 12 hours. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes I'm dosing two part BRS ca/alk... I will try to elevate my alk and par levels I guess.. my parameters are stable however it's a young tank 5 months old.. probably why it hasn't taken off yet?
@dgarcia556
@dgarcia556 7 жыл бұрын
I will try lowering my par slightly 200 range and try raising alk slowly. Hopefully I can see a growth spurt.. I feel like 300 par might be hindering their growth at 12 hours of light duration.

How is it that Sanjay is able to have 50+ ppm of nitrates and 0.4 phosphates with amazing sps colors and growth with little to no algae problems.
@chriscrigger5823
@chriscrigger5823 7 жыл бұрын
Keep the par at 240-280 to the higher light demanding sps. Why are you running the AB+ at 12hrs? It is only meant to be ran a 9hrs with 7 as full intensity. If you mess with the lights all the time your corals will never start growing and coloring up. Set it and forget it. Also try and raise your po4 up to 0.03-0.05.

Those areas tested seem to be ULR areas.. I wonder what nutrient levels where recorded because this has a hugh impact in how much PAR sps can take
