Bull Moose Fight: How it Goes Down
A big bull moose (note the fracture/hole in his right antler paddle from another fight, and also a broken tine) browses quietly until another bull is seen nearby. The two start their head wag approach, and after sizing each other up, decide to fight. Short but furious and so intensely powerful, it's a wonder nobody was injured. At one point the darker bull does lose a shard/tip of a tine, but other than one wounded ego/pride, no casualties this round. They ended up bedded down just a few yards from each other. The escape shown in slow motion after the one real time angle shot. (The background sound is the raging creek nearby.) Enjoy and if you like, please subscribe!
Thanks for watching our channel, we are the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.) It is our passion to document wildlife of any kind, but moose are at the top. In New Hampshire we spend a lot of our spring/summer hours in kayaks photographing loons and moose in the waters of New Hampshire. And hike many miles in Alaska seeking all manner of wildlife in the fall.

Well said! What has always impressed us about these animals is just that: when one calls uncle, it's over. No chasing to further the point, no running the opponent off, the loser just goes to stand in the corner, basically, and sulk. Or process. Then they move on. Sorry I missed this comment before!

As the name implies, you are indeed the MooseMan. Fantastic video. I'd always prefer 100% to see bull moose in this natural setting whether it be fighting, defending, feeding or other activity than in someone's bow or gun crosshairs to be used as a trophy. Keep em' coming Moose.

We wholeheartedly agree! We enjoy being able to "shoot" these incredible beasts time and time again, day after day. And just spending time with them, even when they're bedded, is, well...ommmmmmm. Smell the trees, slow the breathing, relax beside a bedded bull. Pretty cool stuff!

Do you have any videos of moose with their antlers hooked together and can't get apart? And, if you've ever seen it, did you do anything to help?? 📽
@MooseManNaturePhotos
@MooseManNaturePhotos Жыл бұрын
We have short clips of moose with their antlers locked but they have gotten free. And if they were to become locked, I can't imagine there would be anything anyone could do. That would require a vet or two, with drugs and probably chainsaws to cut the antlers apart. I've seen it done with a deer caught in something, but not two bucks locked. It's a good question. Sometimes nature, cruel as it is, just has to happen. Sadly. I know it's something I never want to witness.

GREAT FOOTAGE.... LOVE THIS.... Before the end result, MY GUESS was the darker bull would be the aggressor and the winner of this battle... look at the bodies of these animals...check out the muscle tone...That first bull was a little older..maybe one year ... AND if this valley only has a few moose, chances are that these two are cousins..... I always look at the horn structure and you will see that some are simiar in their shape and tangs. IT IF OFTEN you will only see similar sized bull moose battling together. I seen one bull moose with Grizzlie claw marks (which were made during the period of when the moose was in velet. Simalar to this bull with the damaged horn...was most likely during this period... AGAIN... THANK-YOU SOOOOO much for sharing.....

@MooseManNaturePhotos
@MooseManNaturePhotos 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, this fight did not end up the way we would have bet money on; the larger bull, the 3x3 (three brow tines on each side), should have bested the younger bull, (darker body, long rope) but as it turned out, the younger bull prevailed. At the end the larger bull sulked down in the trees, but they both ended up bedded down just a few yards from each other, separated by the trees so they couldn't see one another. Interesting stuff. Thanks for watching/commenting.

@@MooseManNaturePhotos Thanks, I don't know much about Moose, obviously. I assume what you call a "rope" is what I thought was a "beard"? But, at any rate, thanks for bringing us these videos. It's beautiful country too! I live along the front range of the Rockies and mostly just shoot varmints and call coyotes these days. Big Game Hunting has just gotten to be nothing but "big business" anymore and quite confusing. I miss the days when you bought a "hunting license" and went hunting pretty much wherever you wanted. It's all meant to discourage hunting and shooting anyway. Best Wishes.
