One of the top advantages of single barbless hooks is that they greatly minimize foul hooking. I know that almost every fish I catch has eaten my presentation, rather than simply swiped or knocked it. I am glad you included the foul hooked fish, as it is, like you said, a reality. Just yesterday I foul hooked an enormous, aggressive spawning brown trout who simply wanted to get my streamer out of its area. Stay huge.

I understand this but I fly fish a ton for pike and trout here in Alberta so all wild and native fish and I have literally never snagged fish outside of its face on the fly and I use barbed and barbless hooks personally I don’t experience it often but I can definitely see it happening

Some solid belches, the old check the date on the tippet spool excuse and...wait, was there a “tail lift”? Lemme go back and watch again! 😂. Good one Ben!

Don’t feel bad, large black drum get snagged a bunch. They have huge pectoral fins, and they will kinda pounce at stuff near the bottom and use those big fins to funnel it toward their mouth under their head. I snagged most of mine with DOA shrimp ✌🏼.

That Red was Huge..like you! I’ve caught many bulls over 40 years but none on the fly..yet..just started that 2 years ago. Don’t get to the coast much anymore. I’m betting she was well up into the 20#s. The one in my pic is one of my biggest, 46”- 35#, caught in the surf. Those were some nice Black Drums also! Got my adrenaline going just watching..Thanks Ben! Have a Huge week! 🎣 ps I’ve been wearing my Huge t-shirt, breakin it in with slimy fish scales. 🎣👍😂

why do some of them have soft spines that wiggle around in the current?
@noyopacific
@noyopacific 4 жыл бұрын
@@alinaaseh3679 I think those might be anemones which are related to corals and jellyfish. The urchins I've met here in California have hard spines. They are relatives of sea stars (starfish.) Maybe our resident biologist (Ben Huge) will correct this if I'm mistaken.

Well, he’s right. Your gear doesn’t mean shit. It’ll probably last longer in the long run with expensive gear, but it doesn’t change how you catch fish. I’ve got tons of fish on sub $400 rigs.

How do you keep fish with teeth (sheepshead) from biting through your line?

Use a bite tippet. Just a thicker piece at the end of your leader.

@Joe_Biden915 2 жыл бұрын
@@HugeFlyFisherman Thanks, I've never seen bite tippet, but I'll look. Not a lot of fly shops in my neck of the woods lol. Thanks for the video. Seeing people fish flies for anything other than trout is a game changer for me.
@coreytohme9861
@coreytohme9861 2 жыл бұрын
@@Joe_Biden915 It's not sold as "bite tippet" so you won't see it listed as such. "Bite" or "shock" tippet is just a short, heavier section at the end of your tapered leader. It is usually fluorocarbon for abrasion resistance.
