Bullards Bar | Boat-in Camping Trip 2020

We went on our first boat in camping trip. Originally we planned on getting a first come, first serve spot in Madrone Cove Campground, but when we arrived at Emerald cove Marina and talked with some staff members we changed our minds.
They told us that it was a VERY steep hike up to the campground from where we would have to dock the boat and it was filled with wasps. Instead, they suggested just looking along the shore line for a place to shore up for the next few nights. It would be better for water access and IT'S FREE anywhere along the shore. So that's what we did.
There was also no fee we needed to pay for launching the boat or leaving it in the parking lot at the marina while we were out on the lake. Our family really enjoyed it and we will be back (and better prepared next time).

Glad I found your video!! Been wanting to take our pontoon to Bullards Bar and was also looking into those boat-in campgrounds. I didn't know you could camp and have a fire anywhere on the shore. Stoked to find that out!!

Was is very far to boat? Could we take our kayaks? Can kids 8y and 6y paddle their own kayaks?

It actually wasn’t too far to boat where we camped. It was about a 10-15 minute ride to the marina when we were loaded with stuff. To answer your kayak questions… yes and no. Yes, you can take your kayaks and we stayed on the far side of the reservoir so you definitely find something closer and not venture too far. But no I would not recommend that your 6 year old kayak out there, your 8 year old would possibly be fine if they have done it many times before. Hope that helps.

Can you rent boats at the marina so you can boat in ?

There are a variety of boats to rent (pontoon, ski boats & jet skis) but only for a day or half day option. You may try calling to see you are able to reserve a boat for multiple days but then it gets pretty pricey. 1-877-692-3201
