The Scania engines are like CAT engines as they generally a longer stroke making much more torque where the Volvo V8's tend to rev higher and make HP but less torque and as a result lack pulling ability because of it consequently they require a higher HP to achieve a similar drive-ability. So to recap a shorter engine stroke makes a smaller compact engine but less torque , a longer stroke like the Cummins ISX series 6 Cylinder Engines can make as much as 1500 Ft/Lb Torque from 1000 to 2100 RPM with a peak of 400 Hp @ 1650 RPM . Where the Cummins VT903 makes 860 lb.ft Torque @ 1800 RPM and 320 hp @ 2600 RPM Remember these engines are comparable displacement but I know what I'd rather be driving with a heavy load and that is the big 6 due to it's much greater torque lower RPM . Yes you will be swapping cogs a lot but that's the name of the game. remember HP is one thing but for heavy transport and truck weight then Torque is King. You need to get out more mate really A Hood as the yanks call it is as you surmise what we in Oz and you in the UK call a Bonnet ( If not Cab Over ) , a Fender is what you or I would call the mud guard over the Wheel or wheel arch , The Boot as we call it relating to Cars is what the yanks call a Trunk presumably because the wagons from years gone by had a large trunk across the back of the wagon :) Oh driving that weight in the Snow at that speed is asking for trouble even in a Simulation. if the mass and inertia are correctly modelled. There are People and other things like animals even in FSX so I have no doubt that what you were musing about @13 minutes could be done. ref @23 min In my 20's I travelled extensively through England Europe , Nth and Sth America etc Lands End to JoG is a doddle in comparison to distances we travel in Australia or in the US even having driven trucks for Eddie before he was "Eddie" and companies in the US it was great I got paid to tour the country, and I'd take on big trips because many driver's wouldn't. In answer to your question @ 25 min yes at Vancouver to Halifax and then turned round and headed for LA and then back up through the Rockies and then the coast to Seattle and again turned around and pointed south east finishing in Miami over a 6 month period though, I know young and dumb and full of adventure and would do it again in a heartbeat even though I'm 55 next year . This trip was all rural back roads meeting and talking to people along the way doing a dats work or two here and there t pay for fuel etc THAT is how you travel and expand you mind and actually learn what you could NEVER do from a text book. @ 26:15 it's "Peterbilt" as in the boys name and your likely thinking of the low budget road warrior film from 1971 with Dennis Weaver where a travelling businessman has a run in with an unseen driver of a big rig called "Duel". The Prime mover was a 1960 Peterbilt 281 with a grundgy Fuel tanker Trailer and the car was a Plymouth Valiant , We had the Australian built version at the time as our family car . @ 32 min You can't see what it actually is in the Video but a CAT D9T is around $500000 to $800000 Aud depending on the Options and weighs in at around 47 Metric Tonne's so SLOW Down in the Snow and ice as your probably grossing 75 Tonne you realise. Now as for insurance that is not normally up to the Truck operator but the freight consignor, BUT many companies carry multi-million dollar policies for public liability and Load insurance @33 IF you have ever driven a Prime mover bobtail and especially in Ice and snow you would know why the AI is slow, you have very limited steering response speed and literally very low grip on the rear and MUST drive accordingly, especially in the Wet or Snow because the wheels WILL darn near lock instantly with no trailer weight. As for parking you and I need to get on Teamspeak etc and I could give you a few pointer's in parking etc :p

I enjoyed this video but two things. as an American trucker for 20 years when you pull in to park a trailer, if you can turn in so that you look out the driver's side to see the parking area and second I am glad to see that the game designer hasn't been accurate the slickness of snow and the lack of ice on bridges and ramps. I cringed to see you going 60 to 70 miles per hour on snow in spite of the fact it's only a game. it was cool to see you can pull loads like that after dark in Europe also. in the us we would have to park dusk to dawn each day. keep them coming and great trip.
@joned10009 жыл бұрын
the snow is a mod and is not default to the game. so the game devs (SCS) had nothing to do with the snow.

Gotta say, I've been on a binge of your content lately. Played a fair amount of ETS2 on a controller, and always enjoyed myself, but always felt like I needed more. More being a wheel, pedals, and shifter. So after watching a ton of your content, I bit the bullet and ordered a G29 and Shifter ( I know there are better wheels on the market, but currently, without doing some extreme bargain hunting, the G29+Shifter is the cheapest full setup I could find.) I received my shifter today, feels good with no frame of reference, and I'm super excited to get my wheel next week and start trucking again. Cheers mate, keep doing you.

18:35 - You bet people would watch hour+ videos. :D I've recently watched your entire ATS diary series, all the ETS2 diary series, various misc ETS2 vids, now I'm going through the rest of the ETS2 playlist. Every time a vid ends I'm a bit sad it couldn't go on longer. Like so many of these things, the channel owner often doesn't realise just how popular their content may be, or quite why. It's the fact that you talk about so many different things, but also about the game, issues about gaming in general and where it's going, funny stories, and you have a good voice for it too, like a trucker version of Bernard Cribbins. :)
@Girruuth11 жыл бұрын
Fenders are front and rear side panels. Bumpers are front and rear impact panels, the bits that aren't the hood, trunk or fender. bumpers *used* to be chromed heavy steel fixtures that would absorb the impact if you "bumped" into anything. Now they are molded high impact plastic with metal behind to absorb mild impacts.

Another cool Video, Thanks! I think you would enjoy driving across North America, maybe in the spring or fall when its not terribly hot or cold. Perhaps rent a convertible and buy some sunscreen. Route 66 is an excellent choice, its definitely intended as a scenic road from Chicago to Los Angeles across the great plains and Rocky Mountains, even the desert in Arizona. From LA you could go north through Yellowstone and into Canada and then back east; some Canucks could make recommendations there

America is absolutely beautiful.

Squirrel,if you have played long enough you should know - when you reach level of 25 you can put 730 bhp in Scania. To date my in-game millage is over 430 000 km. Also the longest route I meneged to put together is about 6800 km in one delivery. But that takes a lot of driving around and NOT following your route advisor. What I have noticed on volvo vs scania engines (in real life) is huge torque difference.Where scania just keeps pullingvolvo struggles, and goes coule gear down, it's not the power, it's the torque. For example. Assuming you can keep your foot down. Power makes how fast you will hit the fence. (the faster you can pull the trailer) Torque, is how far you will take that fence with you (the heavier the trailer may be when you get on the hill)
