I don’t officially time batch, but do put some like things together: phone calls, responding to emails, etc. My main advice is the same as your approach to bullet journaling: use what works for you, don’t feel bad for not using what doesn’t. I’m not a morning person, so “eat the frog” (do the hardest thing first) doesn’t really work for me. I build momentum with smaller/easier tasks. And depending about how you feel about certain tasks, there’s too much of a good thing (too much of an exhausting task). I strategically schedule phone calls on days I DO NOT have many meetings/zoom calls. To much talking to people makes me grumpy and too tired to do anything else. Good luck!

@catwhitt4 жыл бұрын
Ok, I'm going to do this. I'm going to actually get my bullet journal out and use it. My mental state has left me seeing this as a lost cause. I refuse to allow this. You have inspired me to actually do this. Also, I really want to try and draw those pretty daffodils. When you had the Patreon poll I chose the daffodils because I love the color pallet. I was thinking the other day about your move. I moved to New Mexico about 7 years ago. My ex-boyfriend was put into prison so within a month I packed up my two girls, 5 animals and sold my house, and moved half-way across the country to get away from him. I do remember some tips. If you have some things that you don't want to bring but can't see throwing away, many places like the Goodwill and Salvation Army will pick them up for free. Plan your meals around the frozen foods and perishables that you have in the house so you aren't buying extra food that you may have to throw away. Have lots of bottled water around; you need to hydrate with the amount of work being done. I offered some to the movers as well. It's good to take photos of your belongings. It helps if movers lose something and show the condition of your items if things are damaged in the move. If you need a rental truck or hire movers, they tend to be cheaper during the week rather than the weekend and during the mid-month. Of course, color code tape or something and label all boxes to where they go (bedroom, etc). Use bubble wrap and protective materials, heavy items go into small boxes. Your cats! Have an ID collar for them for the move, maybe microchipped. Keep their routine as normal as possible up to the move. Introduce a cat carrier to them weeks before the move. Put some treats in there, a favorite toy or blanket. Just leave it on the floor with the door open so they see it as a place of comfort. During the move, keep your cats in the carrier while the movers are in the house. If they will be in the car with you, have them get used to riding in the carrier in the car before your move. At your new home, introduce your cats to one room first. Secure the room, maybe your bedroom. Have their cat tree in there, food, kitty litter... everything familiar to them. Spend time with them in this room, play with them, to calm their nerves. If your cat seems nervous, don't rush for them to leave the room. Close the door if there is a lot of activity with moving in other parts of the house. Later when the movers leave, open the door and let them explore. Be careful to keep them indoors cause they may try to leave to go back to their old stomping grounds. Don't worry. Remember that it will be ok. Keep your stress low. Pay attention to your body's cues to slow down. Hydrate. Eat. Shower. Talk about your concerns and fears, it helps to get things out. We are here for you.
@selmaarnaut-madrigal6674 жыл бұрын
such great advice! just want to add on the cats, dont be like me and put your cats in a completely empty room. they need something to hide under or behind when they just get there. our poor cat was so scared, we put him in our bedroom before there was any furniture. i opened the closet for him and that helped some. once the bed was in there, he was much better.

There's also a spray with feromones you could use for both the cat carrier and the new room you put them in. It's called Beophar No Stress spray, but I don't know if that's available in the US. But keep in mind that not all cats will be equally sensitive to it.

I've never done a monthly theme, basically just week to week, depending on my mood and what's going on. Here in Arkansas our weather/seasons can change in a matter of days. Last week we had a foot of snow, this week it has been in the 70's. Go figure. That said, I'm definitely ready to move away from the dark wintery colors and move into pastels and spring florals so I'm eyeing pinks and blues and purples, along with tulips - although when I saw your daffodil on Patreon I actually drew it, which I never ever do because I can't draw for shit. Your style of drawing one just made it seem less intimidating. Thank you!

I moved about 1 year ago - out of a house I had lived in for 20 years. My kids are in their late teens, and they wanted to help, but they were mostly clueless about what to do, how to do it, what to do first, second, etc. I would try to tell them, but they would immediately forget. I was spending a LOT of time helping them try to help me, and it was frustrating for everyone. I ended up getting those really big sticky post-it notes, in a couple of different colors. I used one color for my daughter, another one for my son, and another for family stuff they could help with. Then I just started making lists on them. Clean out things in bathroom you don’t want - throw away if garbage; put in Goodwill box if giveaway. Get boxes and pack things you want to move... keep similar things together. Start separate box for things you use often/might want before moving day. Etc. I put them in our kitchen - on the oven door, cabinet doors, etc. so it was easy for all of us to see, and in our faces all the time. It really helped keep them on track without me having to get involved every 5 minutes. It was especially helpful when they were packing things in shared spaces... kitchen, laundry room, garage, etc. As they finished tasks on the list, they marked them off. That helped all of us really stay on top of how much more we had left to do. Of course, I kept adding new things to the lists as I thought of them. 😉

I batch tasks / time block at work. It always insures I have time set aside for each task everyday. So if something random pops up I know I have an hour the set aside for the task again tomorrow for I know it will get done. The hard part is sticking to the time block and not getting distracted by other things. Setting a timer helps and only starting with smaller time blocks help. Edit: Also I had a great example of dealing with being distracted today. Watch out for the “it will just take a second” tasks. If it’s not a task assigned to the time block, just jot it down for when it’s time block comes up. Of course, this doesn’t always work for “emergency” tasks. I have an admin time block that repeats 3 times a day ( when I first clock in and read emails and revise my task schedule for the day, when I come back from lunch break, and before I clock out for the day). In the end, it’s all about discipline.

I constantly felt like I needed a camera. This was before we all carried cameras around like a watch on our wrists. I can't wait to move back, BUT It takes 90 days to acclimate your red blood cell count at high elevations. I had a world of trouble speaking out loud and my head constantly hurt. My sinuses were a wreck. My body could not move oxygen as easily at practically sea level,, to my brain. If I got up too fast, I was pass out dizzy. There was no running up the stairs, and we had 3 sets in a split level. If your health conditions have any form of slight anemia, hold on tight. Aside from that, baking and boiling water is amusing. Start reading about how your food you enjoy from home now will take more time or have you be adjusted a mile high in the sky. The air is so thin that it's easy to smack a baseball out of the park.
