Not gonna lie, it’s pretty funny watching the new Phantom drivers making the mistakes that the real ones also did. I almost can’t help but cringe when I see one trying to get in a turn fight with a Mig.

If they maintain speed and rate you they’re actually terrifying, it’s just so rare that anyone understands the concept of rating. It’s weird how reversing your turn seems to come so naturally to people even when it’s so clearly a terrible play.

@@Bullet4MyEnemy agreed. The Phantom is no slouch, when operated properly. Lots of people don’t seem to understand that going vertical is their friend, also maintaining patience and not rushing to get the kill.

I’m aware you can lock it but it really doesn’t drift much regardless, seems like a needless extra step. Also would’ve probably died on that landing with the head on encounter with a locked nose wheel

I never lock it either. Haven't ever had an issue. Once you get a little bit of speed, the plane stays in a straight line

Gotta say though, M3 has to get to grips with the MiG now, or stop selling it. The FM is more than a little dodgy, but the worst part is just how the radar over performs. Damned thing is basically immune to ground clutter, whereas the considerably superior APQ-120 (correctly) barely works even when level below 10,000ft.

Compared to the Phantom every Cold War radar over-performs, it’s DCS’s biggest weakness; the fact different devs make everything so there’s a glaring lack of standardisation.

Yeah, I kill phantoms with the R3R or even the beamrider on a head-on, and they never managed to sparrow me so far. They can't get a lock low, and I can fairly easily.

Can't decide if I want to get the 18 or the 21 in the sale...this is certainly making me lean towards the 21 though

It all depends on what era you want to fly in more. Both are solid choices tbh. Hornet is a monster in 80's and really good in Modern.

If you get the 18 then I’ll have someone on a similar level of understanding to fly with which might help me get back into it. The 21 is a Cold War staple though, I think you’d be better off getting something blue for Cold War

@@Bullet4MyEnemy Yeh the fact I already have the F1 means I don't really need another CW for Red, but I do love the 21. Problem is I'm not really interested in any of the CW for Blue, except the F4 and already got that.
