When it comes to the cast iron door armor I think of Ned Kelly and his armor it was made from plow blades or something basically thick ass iron and back in the 1800's few calibers would go through it. It was ultimately 3 bullets in the legs where he wasn't as protected that took him out
@dangingerich2559
@dangingerich2559 Жыл бұрын
That cast iron door from BTTF3 would have been a lot thicker than the one Matt used, likely 2-3 times as thick, but also much weaker metal, but overall would likely have stopped the bullet. Also, the bullet Matt used was a lot faster than bullets from 1885, as we use a lot more advanced powder now.

If the holster you have is like the one I got for my iwi jericho, you have to hold the pistol in a little at an angle and up to release the retention (sort of like you're trying to make the muzzle face away from your leg). I'm not sure if it's purely for retention or for keeping someone from trying to grab your gun, but with very minor practice, it is easy to draw.

Cowboy loads refers to unrealistic loads from competition trick shooting. The colt walker was the most powerful handgun on earth until the 357 magnum came out. 45acp was meant to have the same ballistics as the 45 Schofield, which is a little weaker than a 45 long Colt. Yes, 45acp, 40 s&w, and 9mm are weaker than 45lc 36 caliber ball rounds were relatively weak, but 45 balls are not.

Can already confirm that hanging from an MP-5 sling mount is busted.. There is a reason it's mysteriously blacked out in the movie scene where his weight is actually on it, because he's in a belt harness, and hanging from a proper anchor point, put into the concrete for that scene. But as another point of Die Hard movie interest & trivia, Bruce willis got actual & painful hearing damage from the rapid firing in the scene where he shoots the guy up through the table, where he then says: "Thanks for the advice" to the now dead terrorist atop the table.. That scene, in such confined space under the table, his pain was real, and he thought he'd ruptuted an eardrum at first. Bruce later admitted it gave him some hearing issues for quite some time afterwards, in real life. So be careful trying that one out Matt, make damn sure you don't forget to have those muffs in place, when you re-create that one!

One thing to remember about cowboys is that a lot of them also had their own hand loads that they preferred over commercially produced ammo, and because there was nobody out there producing kevlar or ceramic armor yet, and nobody had SAPI carriers to put a steel plate in either, a lot of them actually loaded them light so that they wouldn't beat their hands up too badly. It was the rifle loads that they loaded piping hot like bubba loves, because that's where there was an actual benefit to doing so. When powder is at a premium on the frontier and you don't know for sure when supplies will come again, it makes a lot of sense lol.

I think, to be fair the cast iron stove door they used in the movie might have also been thicker than the one used here. That one is pretty thin, plus it's old and rusted looking, so it has probably weakened with age. I mean it still "kind of" worked, but I think a newer one would have done better.

The scene in BTT3 was a take off on the final scene in the Clint Eastwood / Sergio Leon movie "A Fist Full of Dollars". It's part of the "man with no name" trilogy.

Hate to make a complaint since the cast iron succeeded in stopping the .45 Long. But I think the round used during that time would have been .45 Long lead rounds. But like I said, it still stopped the FMJs and hollow point so I can't complain too much.

!!! Stock holsters being a butt/sticking is something I've experienced too. I think it's because they're basic to not cost a lot, so they're kind of mediocre and require a specific draw technique.

Some holsters like mine help prevent someone from pulling your gun out of your holster, hold the gun close to your body to release it. And side note...that cast iron door was a fraction of the thickness that one would have been from 1800s.

I think for the cast iron stove door cowboy loads should be used. The black power cowboy loads would be going slower so it is more likely it will work but I doubt he’s getting up and fighting afterwards.

What about a good pool table with a slate bed? I feel like that would stop buckshot. Good ones are like 1"+. Plus all the structure to support it.

Funny thing is the Back to the Future part was taken from another older movie with Clint Eastwood, one of his earlier westerns. I think it was from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly but not 100% sure if that was the movie.

Back to the Future borrowed the stove door trick from Clint Eastwood / Sergio Leone in Fist Full of Dollars. Also, the copper jacketed bullet was only invented 3 years previous to the setting of Back to the Future 3. In Switzerland. For the military. So Buford's bullets would have been straight lead.

If I remember correctly a Fist full of dollars was filmed in Italy. Which puts it as a spaghetti western. Many of the firearms were out of period but looked the part. You could do a few myths with the old westerns and frontier movies.

As far as the pool table goes the one that you used is most definitely a low quality pool table that only has wood directly underneath the green felt. On a good quality pool table it will actually have very hard slate directly underneath the felt and that actually may stop a shotgun blast
