Beyond words... The piano/cello's interlude... Lyrics, vocals, guitars, melody, intensity... Black Love is the only album in the 90's to have 11 timeless songs in a row, I guess. The Afghan Whigs... Must be a crime that this band doesn't earn a huge success. The world of mainstream music is on a eternal debt with Greg Dulli and your untouchable band. Special, special, special. "Bulletproof" = anthem

I do the same exact thing. Probably my favorite Whigs song, which is like a parent trying to choose their favorite kid. Greg Dulli is the coolest person who ever lived.

I just love the part with "Every time I dream about you, baby With your hands all over me Never forget anything Never forget that I'm asleep" So much loss and pain in those four lines.

So much conviction and passion in the words as Greg sings.

Damn.. This performance was on point. I can feel Greg's voice and feel the energy of the band in this video. Still my favorite Whigs album, the last three tracks Bulletproof, Summer's Kiss and Faded just gold.

Man, I still watch this video now and again. The song has this crazy, desperate, sad intensity to it and the live version's got even more... Though it is missing Dulli's voice breaking and failing at the end from screaming "LOVE" like the studio one does...

Hey HolyCrispy...... The lyrics around 4:30 contain some of The Supremes. If you listen to Uptown Avondale, they cover the song "Band of Gold" as well.

@acorsinofdez Developed, written, recorded and mastered in Memphis at Ardent Studios. Growing up in Memphis, this album defined my teen years and remains a big part of my soul. It is pure concentrated Memphis Rock/Blues.

My read was this song is about Kurt Cobain. Go to sleep It's over now A final prayer for my friend Dulli seems to be referencing Pennyroyal Tea with "sleep" and "To tell the truth. To tell it well. It all depends upon the liar." Cobain sang, "I'm a liar and a thief. I'm so tired I can't sleep." Bulletproof and When We Two Parted are my favorite Whig songs.

I thought it was don't forget that I'm asleep lol. The best thing about Greg is that it's so easy to hear words that have the most meaning to you personally. I've fucked up tons of his lyrics and I told him that at The Parish in Austin but he confirmed in like five words what I just said. Over the last quarter of a century he wrote the soundtrack to my life. Much love
