Slightly unrelated, but this a great reminder of how influential people like George Lucas & Steve Jobs were to the technology behind the entertainment industry. They saw something in teams like Pixar and by giving them a platform to execute their vision, they forever revolutionized the industry. These sorts of stories are always fascinating to me, it's that perfect mix between art and tech coming together to create something extraordinary. That original Pixar team were just cooking!

It's absolutely crazy how much of all 4 sequels took a page from the original Toy Story script that got rejected by Disney. "Going on a road trip and becoming a lost toy in the process", sounds a lot like the plot to TS4. Plus, the other 2 you pointed out.

Coolest thing is that they did in fact create the coolest toy that everyone did want. It wasn't just a generic interpretation of what one concept artist thought could suffice for what a kid would want. The whole world wanted a buzz lightyear.

Hard to believe that Toy Story went through so many revisions. Truly tells how much work, care, and effort goes into these films. Also, thank christ the Black Friday Reel was not the final version of the film, and I will never, EVER, understand what Jeffrey Kaitzeberg was thinking when he try pivoting the film into that direction. Then, again, he allowed Shark Tale to be made, a film that mine as well be Finding Nemos own equivalent to the Black Friday Reel, so, idk.

It's crazy that Pixar on their first film was able to land Tom Hanks during his run of back-to-back Best Actor Oscars, arguably the biggest male T.V. star at the time in Tim Allen, and one of the all-time great comedians in Don Rickles. Pretty astonishing.
@RatzaChewy3 ай бұрын
It's pretty essential to the film that they did. Even though they toned down how jealous and bitter Woody was after the test reels, Woody in the final film was still a bit of a jerk. It's just that Tom Hanks has such a believable everyman quality to his performance that you completely understand why Woody did what he does. And Tim Allen being pompous but harmlessly deluded only added to that.
@jessekittrell29463 ай бұрын
It was because of the Disney connection. If it was JUST Pixar they don't get those guys. Disney had distrubued The Santa Claus & was in talks to buy ABC (Home Improvement was running on ABC). Pretty sure that's how they got Tim. Hanks had done multiple movies with Disney (Turner & Hooch was Touchstone but they were a part of Disney.... plus Splash). He's obviously a big Disney fan (he played Walt in a movie even).
@Lucifronz2 ай бұрын
@@RatzaChewy He was riding high a little bit on being the favorite toy, so he was very insecure about potentially being replaced since Andy wasn't playing with him. But they toned it down quite a lot to where you can sympathize with him, which was important. He tries to push Buzz behind the cabinet so that Andy won't find him and will pick Woody for the trip, but winds up knocking him out the window, where the rest of the toys somewhat justifiably (but also irritatingly) assume the worst and throw him out too. Thing is, the other toys always kind of got on my nerves, because their blind hate for Woody and lynch-mobbing gets in the way not just in the first movie, but in the third movie, when they should trust him more, they refuse to believe they were going to be put back in the attic for safekeeping and that it was all an accident even though Woody was pretty clear. So they're all pretty flawed personality-wise, Buzz included. It works, though. They're all good movies, even 4, although I do lean on the side of people saying that Woody probably shouldn't have abandoned Bonnie. It's not that they didn't work up to it, but it just seems like something that would crush Andy, to find out that the kid he trusted with his favorite toy just lost him at some carnival and didn't even care.
@Nintenboy012 ай бұрын

It always amazes how masterful at storytelling the people at Pixar are (especially during 1995-2010) including the "plot hole" of Buzz freezing whenever people are around, even though he thinks he's real. Pete Doctor revealed that the screenwriters did try to think of an explanation but they realized that it always stopped the story cold and ultimately wasn't needed.
