Big ups to Al Vermeil for keeping the Bulls in shape and in conditioning during that championship run in 91 Jordan had the great Tim Grover.

@Bee G Actually, you are partially correct. And the player you speak of is Horace Grant. Horace could out bench Mike and Mike hated that lol. And plus Jordan was extremely private with his workouts during that time....

Vermeil is far more respected in the sports conditioning world than Grover. Grover put some rims on a sports car. Vermeil turned guys into great athletes and influenced a lot of other guys that became great strength coaches. He is the only strength coach to have an NBA and MLB championship. Grover is like Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Vermeil is like Richard Feynman.

I believe MJ was having the breakfast club with most these guys
@mickeyjohnson5247
@mickeyjohnson5247 3 жыл бұрын
No. The Breakfast Club didn't happen until the Bulls second 3peat run 96 thru 98 and it had Mike, Pip, Harp and sometimes Randy Brown. A very important factor to remember when it comes to the 90s Bulls is the exact time period when certain things happened...

By this time MJ was strength training, but with his own private coach, the Legendary Tim Grover. From the little pieces I have read Jordan’s routine was similar to the rest of the team’s: heavy compound lifts, clean,squat,press. You take these elite athletes in the NBA, that are literally off the bell curve in terms of athleticism and they respond to the basic strength movements incredibly well.

I know basketball players are lean but to see Scottie lifting that much is kinda weird.

Al Vermeil joined the Bulls organization in 1985 IIRC. Why did Jordan choose to train with Tim Grover instead of Vermeil?

Several reasons. First, the thought was that Jordan was a thoroughbred and lifting weights would mess him up. Then when Jordan decided he needed to lift to withstand the Pistons it was believed to be a bad idea for him to lift with his team mates because he would be too competitive. He would try to out lift Horace Grant and would hurt himself since there was no way he would be able to out lift Grant, who was a beast in the weight room.
