That crsppy star prize and many other crappy star prizes probably the whole reason why the star prize was always hidden behind bully. it was usually better for the winning team to gamble when they didn't win an "armful of prizes" on bully's prize board and miss out on scoring 101 or more. it seemed a shame (gasping audience) when they don't win it when it happens to be a car, but only one of them could own it when it's 2 mates won it, they probably usually sold it soon afterwards so they could both get an equal share of the amount they got from selling it. One pair in later series appearing in a later series no longer had their car they won in an earlier series when they appeared in the audience at the start of a show.

It became well known after the programme was axed that they had two prizes backstage. If the contestants won the cheaper one was pushed out, if they lost the more expensive one (look at what you would have won). Hence why they gave more speedboats away than cars (they had a good deal to get them cheap) and if they lost it was, more often than not, the car

People should know that the broadcasting authority who controlled commercial TV in Britain back then placed a cap on the amount of money spent on prizes per game show edition on ITV. During the first 8 series of Bullseye the cap was set at £1,750 per edition. It increased to £5,000 per edition by 1989. The cap was not abolished until Jan 1st 1993, during the end of Series 12 of Bullseye.

Look at Wheel Of Fortune or Price Is Right etc, if there was a prize that nobody wanted i.e. a trip to Egypt or a car, they had the option backstage as they were told before hand IF they won (either one of the contestants), they had two options - a) take the main prize and walk away with it or b) swap it for cash which would have been something like £5000 or $8000.

Yes but can you just imagine the conversations at the production meeting earlier in the week when they were deciding on the prizes... they must’ve been pissing themselves

That was the thing which was confirmed when Jimbo was interviewed about it that the bosses behind the show and ITV would always pull that shtick every time, as they would have two star prizes behind the stage so that if you won, you got the really shit prize or if you lost, you'd be shown "You're fuckin' shit! You could have won a fuckin holiday to Cancun!" BUT, because people started noticing the same thing happen again and again, they had to allow certain prizes to be won when they did get 101 or more and more than nothing, it would have been a speedboat or a caravan or a car because they would have gotten them cheap (most likely 2nd hand XD)
