Dogs are man's best friend, but even a cute and cuddly little puppy can grow up to be a deadly killing machine! While many people own dogs, there are a large number of people afraid of dogs. This fear goes back thousands of years and likely extends to human interactions with the wolf. We know instinctively that dogs can be dangerous, but we love the little furballs anyway.
That doesn't mean there aren't breeds of dogs that aren't dangerous to humans. There are quite a few kinds of dogs many people consider to be scary and dangerous due to their aggressive nature. We aren't suggesting all dogs of the breeds listed here are dangerous, but due to documented cases, some individuals within a breed have proven to be dangerous to humans.
These scariest types of dogs are why many people are afraid of them and in some cases, they should be. Approaching an unfamiliar dog of any breed can be dangerous, as plenty of dogs can attack humans. While most do so only when threatened, some will attack completely unprovoked and, when a powerful dog bites into your neck, it's likely you won't be getting up anytime soon.

I've had a lot of friends who own them as strikers for hunting hawgs, to a dog, they've been total sweethearts with people. Most hunters adopt them out or bring them in the house after 20 kills just to be humane & give them a happy retirement. They DO form intense, loving bonds & MOS DEF will keep you safe against all comers LOL!

BRAVO!!! I was hoping you put the CO in your list and it made it to #1! We adopted our male at the age the 2 and he had already been tossed between 3 homes by then. Your comment about trainability is SPOT ON. let’s just say I have the scars to prove it and that was him just nipping. I wouldn’t want to know what his actual bite would feel like. But man, once you figure out how to train them, they are LOYAL. I’m training him to be my service dog now. The way how INTUITIVE he is is uncanny. Once you earn their respect they’ll do whatever you want them to do. He’s so amazing with my kids too.

I have a caucasian, I fell in love with them when I first learned about them almost a decade ago and finally had the opportunity to get one almost two years ago. He’s by far and above the best guard dog I’ve ever known. I never had to formally train him to be protective, I’ve only had to train him to know what to be protective of and what not to. Thing is he’s so intimidating that when he’s there people don’t bother doing anything so his presence is more than enough to deter any would be criminals!

He’s such a good boy though, with me and people he knows he’s a big teddy, with strangers he’s intimidating to say the least. If I’m not there to introduce you there is 0% chance he will like you, but if I introduce you he’ll roll over or most often sit on your feet and look up backwards at you! This breed is incredibly intelligent and I’ve trained him as a guard dog since he was a couple months old and he has razor sharp instincts when it comes to people. I’ve learned they base their instincts on smell, he sticks his nose up in the air to help determine whether people are dangerous or not before he ever sees you. If you take care of them, they will take care of you. Edit: I have to warn you if you get one, they are shedders. If you don’t brush them everyday, you’ll wonder if there’s another dog in your house from all the fur in every corner!

I'm a lifelong dog fancier, in fact as a kid for a couple years I took care of dogs when people were on vacation. I've owned several different breeds, all but one large and good guardians and used to go to many different shows. I've only known one person-coupe actually-who ever owned a Caucasian. I only saw pics & home videos. They were living in the mountains up near the Canadian border in Wa. State when they had him. Their dogs were for their protection (and company!) & to protect their horses. He'd drive off both bears & cougar (they had a couple other dogs, which he got along with okay, they'd back him up facing down predators, but apparently the Caucasian didn't care about that, or play or posture, they could tell he'd take the critters without hesitation). Anyway, they both said they'd have had to find someone to take him if they'd moved when he was still alive, he liked few, and trusted none besides them and like a couple friends. LONG WAY OF SAYING TOTAL AGREEMENT in the Caucasian LOL!

As someone that has owned JRTs a ,Fila, a Chow and an American Akita, the most intimidating looking dogs to me are GSD, mals, & American Akita. It may be the ears or the amount of mass majority of people that own them and the dogs sometimes aren't trained to act according to their owners. Presumably, the general public assumes the bigger and broader the dog is (ex: mastiffs) they are more intimidating so the video is pretty spot on! If I had to choose the 3 dog breeds I wouldn't want to encounter in a bad situation- Caucasian Ovcharka, Fila, American Akita.

I agree with most of them. But the Shepherds are becoming so common place that they aren't feared as much anymore. And no pitbull should ever be on a guard dog list. True pits will help a robber pack off a TV. Lol! Not that all will be like that, but properly raised and bred, they love almost all people. My pits are shitty guard dogs, they are only a slight deterrent due to appearance. My Pit Catahoula is much better.

As much as I love my GSDs I still have some people who want to approach them to pet without asking because they see so many as service/pet dogs. For my next set I’m leaning towards the Presa Canario pretty much for the very same reasons stated here. Great video!...what about the Alabai?
@IrvinBeast
@IrvinBeast 3 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend presa’s but they have a pretty high prey drive, and my neighbor has an Alabai they aren’t really that intimidating until they get big but once they are switched on they are one of the most scary dogs. They have the deepest bark I’ve ever heard and I have a Caucasian Shepherd and the Alabai still has a superior bark in my opinion
@god1284
@god1284 3 жыл бұрын
Be careful with getting a Presa, they have very intense drive and need a lot of exercise, stimulation and work. If you can own one then that's great but I think a Cane Corso is a more easy to own version of a Presa. I also recommend a Rottweiler and a lot of Mastiff breeds, they're all terrifying, except for English Mastiffs and Bullmastiffs, they just look too cute with their big floppy heads but to an intruder those big floppy heaps would be super scary so I guess it works.

Good list. I can imagine it was hard to leave a few off, especially if it's regarding people who only have a passing understanding of certain breeds like the Pit Bull, American Bulldog, German Shepherd, Malinois. Then you have dogs like the Tosa, Akita, CAO who could have all made the list but I think you chose properly. I might have found a spot for the CAO and Akita if it was my list but I can understand why you didn't. Like I said, people with a passing understanding of canines may think an Akita is a playful Husky or mix. I probably would have traded the CAO with the Doberman but really we're just pulling at straws when talking visual and genetic ability to deter. Good list.

Some of the European mountain dogs could be on this list tbh, they are just as intimidating as an Ovcharka when they get into guard mode but having watched the vids you did and the impression you obviously got of them (showdogs) i can understand why they are not on the list ;).

@Luis, they are alot of work. And if you get one like mine, whom is very aggressive, a total PITA to deal with, as you'll have to put them up when you have friends over, etc...but if you decide on getting one, good luck, lol. I wish I would have went back to the Fila, but I couldn't find any good ones at the time.

The visual deterrence thing is a good point, but, the fact is that the most common and most effective guard dogs in most settings are the yappy purse dogs that won't shut up. You can't kick them, they won't shut up, the burglar will run away. Whereas a huge Rottweiler is far more likely to be nice and quiet and let the burglar walk them to a closet.

The Doberman has a reputation where it doesn't need to look like a bulky dog, I can't express how many times I see folks cross the street whenever I take my Doberman out for a stroll. I think it has everything to do with its features which can come off menacing since you can see all its teeth.
@god1284

@@airferock5994 Rather than the dog having physical features that make it scary such as big head and muscular body, Dobermans just have a reputation as guard dogs which is why they're intimidating.

FINALLY!!!! Someone who knows their Dogs!!!!!1st time on any list that the Fila Brazilaro is recognized!!! I had one years ago as i lived in a rough neighborhood. Put it this way..i know of people who were broken in( myself included) when your not home with Dobermans, Rottweilers,Italian Mastiffs, Pitbulls and they did nothing! Some were beaten up! The point being the Fila i know for sure will take any 2 or 3 intruders down. Great report!

Tibetans are fantastic dogs. It's worthwhile saying while most associate with flock guardian. The two types are very different in what roles they play. The do kyhi are the best for flock. They work independently throught the night and will gaurd livestock and it's master and during day they are usually tied up or out with the nomads. The tsang kyhi are what you will see in the monestry protecting the monks. This breed are not good at flock guarding but are fantastic for personal protection. They will do whatever is needed to protect their master . They are heavier boned thicker set compared to do kyhi. Although still athletic for its size...

Just came across this. Worked with most of these breeds in my early years as a Licensed Vet Tech(Nurse). I'd agree that all Look intimidating. We now have a 2 yr old rottie boy. like you said about your own, he instinctively knows our property boundaries, and has defended them against many a wildlife intruder! lol Seriously though, when the door bell rings and we act a little surprised, he sees/senses that and uses his super big boy bark. That itself is intimidating! And he is FAST! He could close a distance of 100yds faster than an Olympian! Is 2 too old to start any kind of guard training?

Hi, yes that would be too old to start guard training. However a rottweiler (especially a male) have a natural instinct to protect you. They are extremely intelligent and know the difference between a fake and a real threat to there home or people.
