It looked like you welded to the mounting cans with the bump stops installed. Wouldn't that risk melting the seals inside the bump stops? Cool project.
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 5 жыл бұрын
I can’t say it doesn’t risk it; however, we didn’t have any leaks afterwards. We also didn’t notice any damage after disassembling the bumps to shorten them. I’ve often been told you risk distorting threads too much if you weld something like this separate. I haven’t had any issues either way, so if you plan to do something similar, feel free to use your own process. Thank you.

Great video guys, and for a full size too! I'm curious how much shock travel you had to give up at simultaneous full vertical bump in order to prevent the shock from bottoming out at full articulated bump since the bump stops are mounted between the shocks, rather than forward or behind them where it wouldn't make a difference. Thanks!
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 2 жыл бұрын
We set up the rear bump stops for vertical travel, not articulated. I just wanted some protection when landing. It's a risk I decided to take. The front was redesigned later and loses about 3/4". I have been planning to make some travel stops in the rear wheel wells to protect everything during articulation, just like Black Ops 4x4 has on all his jeeps, I just haven't got around to it.

@@RecklessWrenchGarage 3/4 of an inch isn't bad to give up. I asked because packaging can be difficult sometime and you don't always have the room to put them forward or backward. So it was a curiosity with the give and take would be.

I noticed you braced the c-channel frame, but did not put a center piece on the bump stop pad on the axle. now it might not need it, but I would have put one in the middle and once you put on the larger pads(to allow for more axle movement under load) I would also brace the edges of them as well.
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 5 жыл бұрын
I’m assuming you’re referring to the rear. Larger pads will be going on this time around. After our initial testing, we realized we needed them about an inch wider. Once it’s done, they’ll be boxed in.

@the 10:30 mark- so, why did you choose to sacrifice the last 2” of shock stroke by mounting the bump stop so low? Or is the shock mounted too high? I totally understand saving the Coilovers with the bump stop- but usually 1/2” not 2-3”?
@RecklessWrenchGarage

We didn’t sacrifice 2” of shock stroke, Chris was explaining why we initially set the bumps in that location. From there, they were adjusted to a good setting.

Chris explains the initial setup further around 10:20 . You’ll see later in the video when we pressurize the bumpstops. Once they’re pressurized, no, they shouldn’t stay compressed.

2:04 with my truck on level ground should the progressive bump stops touch the leaf or should I leave 1 inch of space between the bumpstops and the leaf? I am making this exact setup right now
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 4 жыл бұрын
You will want at least an inch. You’ll want to flex it out to find a good spot to mount the bumps. If you set them up without checking travel while you’re sitting level, you may limit your usable travel. You want to prevent your shock from bottoming out, and you’ll also want to prevent your spring from inverting.

Awesome guys, my 2007 Suburban has a 3inch raised on rear and front. It is nerve recking just riding on street roads with a clunking noise every time it goes over the slightest road bump. Will this kit solve the truck body clunking noise?
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 5 жыл бұрын
First, you’ll have to figure out where the noise is coming from, then figure out what will help. If you’re only hitting small bumps and not compressing the suspension all the way, you have a different problem.
@hmongler8994
@hmongler8994 5 жыл бұрын
@@RecklessWrenchGarage Yes after thinking about it, I believe the truck body is lifted off the frame chaise by the space under the rear spring , and that's where the noise is coming from. Maybe no remedy this body lift.

You're going to find that bump pad far too small, and you'll have to do a crossmember on the back frame where you have it mounted. A serious blow will roll the frame. Also remember when you hit full bump it won't always be 100% droop one side 100% bump other, sometimes it's in between and it won't contact fully on the pad and essentially "kick" the axle over. Look at all the rock bouncer guys, they run MASSIVE bump pads, usually 4-5x5" pads.
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 6 жыл бұрын
ShawnMc749 You can see during the install, there is a 2x6 cross member between the bumps. The rest of the frame will be boxed while we finish. As for the pads, those were just to get the bumps lined up. We’ll have a wider plate on them to account for those moments.

@RecklessWrenchGarage

Bump stops are designed to protect the more expensive components by providing a little extra cushion during full compression, and (when adjusted properly) preventing your shocks from fully compressing. If landing hard is something you do frequently, I would say you need them. Whether you could or not is based on your setup/if you have room.

do it, shocks are expensive. You have the shocks to have fun so protect them and really have fun.

So i have a question bump stops should be all top bottom to its destination ? Or you have to leave a gap between the hitting place
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 4 жыл бұрын
If I understand you correctly, the ideal way to set up the bump stop is to have the bump stops completely bottomed out while the coilovers (or shocks) still have about .25” shaft showing. The bump stop is there to protect the rest of the components.

Hey guys quick advice!? I have an 04 Chevy Tahoe. 6” fabtech lift. I tow a lot of heavy logs for my business and I squat my Tahoe a lot would this help put less squat in it and better for wear and tear on my normal components? Or would it ruin the bump stop if it bottoms out?
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 5 жыл бұрын
You would be better off with heavier suspension or air ride assist. Bump stops are meant to cushion an impact, not support weight for a prolonged period.

RecklessWrenchGarage how do I beef up my rear end? Heavier duty springs? What’s compatible with my Tahoe and lift that’s more heavy duty?
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, higher rated springs and shocks. If you have a half ton, the easiest/quickest way would be to replace your suspension with that off a 3/4 ton Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban/Avalanche. They all have the same rear setup.

Hi, im building my chassis but i cant figure out how much anti-squad do i need/want, do you know something about the topic? thanks
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 6 жыл бұрын
Eduardo Rochin That’s not a very easy question to answer. It’s based on what you plan to do with it and how you want the vehicle to act. Some people can run low anti squat, some high, and still act the same... The general consensus is, you want as close to 100% as possible. But not every setup can get that high, and not every setup needs it that high. You can mimic a built that is similar to yours to start and make changes from there.
