Bumper Crop & Grandpa's Thoughts. Montana Wheat Harvest 2023
In today's video we are harvesting our old homestead field and we are very happy to have a bumper crop of wheat. We have some grain cart issues and there is a lot of radio chatter. I visit with Grandpa and he tells me what is wrong with the operation and about the old days of harvest. Dad is happy to have the Cornell University Bee Club members - me and Trevor- running combine for him. Lunch was delicious too. I hope you enjoy my video. Thank you for watching. My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am an 18-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

Really liked your squat down beside Grandpa visit, Kate. 👍 If I had a young daughter I would encourage her to follow your high class lead. You're one of the most approachable but gracious, intelligent, genuine young people of your era. @@skatkat6885 Well, I can appreciate your concerns also, but if I may, I have a few things that may reduce your fears a little. That said, I could be wrong but first is.. - Trevor may be quite camera shy in the greater scheme of things. He is not the natural that we've come to enjoy about Kate. So given more time he might loosen up a little and show more personality on camera. Also, he's had long hot days with no A/C so that can make things extra challenging on camera at the end of a long day. - 2nd, Kate's upbringing has set a very high barr. Few people 'will' measure up but we have to have to turn it back around and trust Kate to make good decisions and leave it in her very competent hands. I don't think Kate is a push-over in any way. - 3rd, Kate has a great family backing and lots of wisdom, and there's no doubt in my mind they will keep an eye on her, so we can take comfort in that also, right? - and as for extrapolating on Trevor's potential past, I think it's very premature to stereotype his overall presence of a tall, big strapping (and I think women would consider him handsome, or a hunk or whatever word they'd use) young guy and to be fair, while maybe he has had quite an active past we don't actually know that so I think to be fair to Trevor and Kate's good judgement, her fan base here..in all their natural inclination to be protective, should instead assume she has exercised good judgement here, full stop. I know it may be easier said than done tho 😉 - and finally, technically Kate's fan base here could possibly be reading much more into this entire scenario than what it actually is. They may be just good friends. And in a way we should probably afford Kate a level of privacy in making judgements or assumptions about her private life in this way. We have been accustomed to her sharing so much and she does it so well in such a classy way, that we all should assume her continued high level of class and without being asked, should automatically sorta respect that line between what she shares in and around the farming and produce community vs what is truly private. Does that make sense? Hope it's help quell your fears a bit.👍🙏✌️

Even if someone were to take it less than great, after they read your 2nd one here, they're going to see there's a kind, thinking, responsible parent, Al..make that parent(s), Kat too, cuz I'll bet she shared thoughts outloud with you here. I remember that very same concern about Mom and Dad hoping all the effort they put in, 'stuck'..ya know? I tried to assure Mom that, "Don't worry Mom you weren't wasting your time, see.. I am appreciative of the videos that you Kate, and other family farming KZbin channels are putting out. Recently I heard a couple of my teenage nieces making negative statements about farmers destroying the environment and adding to climate change. Sadly they are just repeating the garbage they've heard. When I asked for a specific example, they had no response. I pointed them to your channel as well as some of the other family farming channels. I explained to them that farmers are by far the best stewards of the soil and water in this country. They need to hear the truth and be able to see what lengths farmers take in caring for the environment.

Your grandfather reminds me of mine. He used to plow fields on foot with a horse pulling the plow. Sold his farm and went to work for someone that actually had a tractor. That was a big deal in the early 40's. 😊

I am your Grandpa age and I never had a tractor with a cab until I was 60 years old lol In my younger days we farmed JD 60 ,M farmall and an H .I can remember well if it was daylight when you started you were late. I am sure yout Grandpa loves seeing his family farming.

Great comments from your Grandpa, Kate. It was a different time, not that long ago when open platform tractors and combines were the norm. Hand starting the tractors of the time was the first challenge of the day, but it was easier that firing up a steam engine to break up the sod and cultivate!. Have a nice day! 😀

We’ve started combining wheat in the UK as well. Although it’s been so wet so far this summer. I’m lucky with the Claas combine I drive that it steers itself and adjusts all the settings as you go along and adjusts its speed according to how thick the crop is.

@18:15 Trevor felt quite uneasy in his position I would guess. Not typical to start a new job with new vehicles, immediately getting to advertise a product, a stern boss looking over your shoulder, while you are in the same harvesting machine with his daughter.

Another great video!! I find technology a 2 edged sword. It tends to make tasks and machinery more efficient, however, there is always a learning operating curve, there always seems to be a new 'upgrade' and when something goes wrong typically a specialist has to be involved w/ the 'fix'.
