I was listening to the audio version on Spotify in the car and I thought Steve's impression of Sid, "the Calder Cup means nothing" was actually Sid. This is one of my favourite episodes... unreal guys. Also really looking forward to hearing Walsh's podcast.

I’m a die hard Penguins fan since 1985, so I will of course be using them as an example. What the Leafs don’t have is players with high amounts of SKILL that are ALSO willing to got the net, go into the corners, and go to the dirty areas where goals get scored. The Leafs are trying to be the NBA equivalent. The NHL isn’t a perimeter game. It’s a game that is won in the dirty areas.

That makes a lot of sense, and it is a good way to visualize how I feel about this team.

that bit where steve is going like, "If my stupid brain that can barely skate, knows what the leafs are doing." is exactly how I feel. If my dumb ass self who hasn't played house league hockey in 15 years can tell what the leafs are doing before they do it, the something is clearly wrong.

Sid makes some great points about Marner & Tavares and knowing that market in Toronto. Without a doubt the struggles fucks with the Toronto boys. But Tavares I think is mature enough and has been in the league long enough that he can weather it. But Marner, I really gotta think maybe it's just too much too soon for him to bear. And since it's increasingly looking like a big piece is going to have to be moved, as crazy as it is to say & think about, I've really gotta think that Marner not only should be the guy but maybe he needs to be the guy for his own well being, let alone the Leafs.

Regading Steve's rant about the leafs trying to enter with posession all the time : that's exactly why Mike Johnston had brief success and then tremendously flamed out as coach of the penguins. He tried instituting a system in which we always tried to enter with posession and with another skater basically tracking the puck carrier to be available for a pass.
