I’ve used both Deno and nodejs, and I have to say that Deno is a lot better than nodejs. Deno having the same apis as the web is great as I can test stuff in the browser’s console or look up documentation on MDN and just expect it to work the exact same in Deno. Since Deno has typescript built in, basically all, if not all it’s modules not only have types, it has correct types. The amount of times I’ve used a npm package and it has different types than the documentation is too bloody high. I’ve just had such a better experience in Deno than I ever had in nodejs.

The moment you said that you dont care about the sandbox aspect because an attacker will brake it anyways is when I stoped watching. How can you seriously downgrade this fact in a publicly available video.

he's a javascript soydev as you can clearly see by the way he phrases and presents things. those type of people usually "just want it to work" and don't care about correctness, security or code quality.

Watching the creator of Zig's talk about the downsides of C++ and C made me realize how many vulnerabilities exist in them still. I am excited about Zig - and bet that using Zig has many benefits. Similar, in some ways, to using something like rust. His main DX complaint about C++ was it is confusing and overcomplicated, and for C - it was C macros.

I think you’d find Ryan Dhal’s talk from JS Fest 2019 about Deno interesting, as it really explains why he doesn’t like node and wanted to make Deno to replace it. The primary reason why Node has so many incompatible functions from the web is that a lot of the browser features didn’t exist when Node was first made. There were lots of shortcuts in Node which were addressed with Deno.

Imagine bun as the runtime, pnpm as package manager and vite for your build process. That would be wicked fast to setup and run
