This is the first guide I've seen that just comes out and says "hey, don't worry about materia while leveling, just extract it and horde it." And I am immensely grateful for that.

Had no idea how easy it was to extract, I thought the gear would be destroyed… so I never bothered and would store everything in the glamour dresser

Back in the old days, I believe it was destroyed. People would buy cheap gear, spiritbond it and extract.

@@WaltRBuck To be exactly, until the heavensward ages, the gear got destroyed. If I remember correctly, it was removed in 3.2 or 3.3.

Thanks a bunch. Recently 80 and while I recognized that overmelding was going to be important, I haven’t had the energy to figure it out. Luckily (I think) there was exarchic gear with 5 max crits on the market board for under 100k, and after looking into how expensive the materia was right now I figured it was a good investment for WHM

Your welcome? If your raiding then make sure to check balance discord for updated melds but most of the time critical hit always take priority. Or saltedffxiv is another good website!

i have spent 0 on penta melding but i got my Materia from extracting spirtbond and as im a main crafter i have tons of extra and also on crafter gear you pretty much always can keep just one gear set for all crafts so i have all crafting classes like with in 10 levels of each other so i dont have to use lower level gear then at 100 i just crafted the gear then pen melded it all then used that to craft the hq then i use that to craft the new tools and gear for my classes

Wow I really wish I knew the extract materia thing for spirt bound gear a while ago. I’ve been putting all my old gear in the glamor chest for glamors and never knew what that ment. Probly lost out on a ton! Good to know tho!! Thanks for the great guide!

ive already messed up with my materia. I put materia in that gives no bonuses but im scared to remove it from my gear. Im not sure if i will destroy the gear.

Nope it doesn’t destroy anything. Depending on the materia you will only have a small chance to remove it successfully or the materia will get destroyed

Sproud here with a little question: How relevant is crafting throughout the raiding progress? I mean I am still far away from any raid progres but crafting hooked me and I allready level all my jobs parallel. IT is insane how much I like filling my Log with checkmarks or answering requests with HQ products.

Not as much with this mmo compared to other mmos. Crafting end game food is about all there is to do. Gear and other stuff you actually get from the savage content is usually the best gear you can get. But I actually like that it’s separate because crafting can be considered it’s own end game for sure.

@@BunBossFFXIV I was just doing it when I was discarding or desynthesizing an item I didn’t need anymore. It seems so obvious that you’d get some bonus for wearing 100% gear! I was overthinking it! Now I have more materia for sure. Thanks for that. Somethings just aren’t explained super clearly, or it gets lost in the dialogue/cutscene.

You won’t use materia effectively at that level. Only the last three are important which are 8 , 9 and 10 at this point. Which you can’t get until you have level 80-90 gear

It does feel that way and if your newer to mmos or ff in general it would be a little more difficult as all of the wording and lingo is very popular in the entire franchise. Stats wise they usually are the same gone to game or mmo to mmo but the later part can take some time

Nope not at all! As you see in the video it simply just resets the spirit bond percentage

Damn i've been playing for over a year now and never payed attention to spiritbond and always thought that extract was similar to retrieve. I have have probably thrown away or desynthed tons of gear without extracting first.

You should extract the materia :D extract is to get spirit bond down to 1% remove is to take it out of the gear!

@@Atljeepboy correct. Extracting is when you see the little blue bar next to the condition get full, that means your spirit bond is full and you can extract it. Receiving it means you’ll try and remove it from the gear entirely. :)

Yes, I am not sure if it’s the more materia or at least one materia. Either way your capped gear should hace materia I wouldn’t worry about it as your leveling though
