I got bored during spring when it all of a sudden snowed. Lets fill this aquarium up with minnows as we wait for pan fishes to settle in closer to the shore to have a pet fish.
Leave a comment down below what pet fish should we start having in this 20 gallon tank aquarium. Don't forget to leave a like, subscribe and i'll see you all on the next video.

I got eight red rose minnows and put them in my 5 gallon tank with a live plant and other decorations. They are just going to be pets. They were lucky. Lol.

I got one last summer when I went fishing with my friend and his dad we got a bunch for fishing and all of them died except one inside the box and it’s still alive to this day I put it in my 55 gallon with 4 6+ inch goldfish and a foot long common pleco and he’s chilling eating flake foods

I keep 300+ minnows alive in a 35 gallon tub all winter to use since it's hard to trap them during the winter. I've got a 50 gallon filter and aerator, and change the water once a week. I feed them in the morning of the water change, let them eat for 6-8 hours then change the water. They stay from late October through mid March. Have 1 die every once in a while randomly but never have an issue. Water just has to stay cold. Ideal seems to be 45-50 degrees. I still trap in the winter but can't keep up with how many I use.

This has got to be the worst way to keep something alive i have ever seen. I bet the water was white the next day and you lost 90% of those fish within 2 weeks. I didnt see you use a dechlorinator, your tank is not cycled, and its overstocked.

Well it was ready from the begining, for a good month. Ive even had fishes live inside already if you saw the video, I transported them to another tank. The minnows last for a long time (approx. 3 months) where I used all of them as bait. But then you think about the minnows that comes in a bag from the shop and it's pretty overstocked in the little bag. Imagine a fishing trip. The water was clear the next day. I had 90% of the fishes the next 2 weeks due to 10% of the fish were used for ice fishing. The store gives alot for 1 scoop. Can never use it all.

@@RichardYang I'm glad it worked out, but in my experience as a fish keeper, it shouldn't have!

@@MrNexusPrime Many species of adult fish can handle very high levels of nitrate, like 400ppm or more. I imagine these minnows have been bred (intentionally or coincidentally) to tolerate overcrowded conditions, so they're probably more tolerant of ammonia and low oxygen, too. It stands to reason that if there are fish that have naturally evolved to handle extremes of pressure, temperature, or pH, and if it's possible to breed fish to have extremely distorted bodies and fins, then it should be possible for some species to be selectively bred to tolerate overcrowding. We already have fish from very low pH environments that have adapted well enough to breed in high pH captive environments (angelfish).

What kind of filter is that? I will start a set up but can't seem to find those underwater filters

Frog go to a pet shop and ask them for a sponge filter, they should have it. If youre in a small shop (not a chain) it’ll only cost you like 6 dollars

Crazy as it may sound, if you set the tank up totally empty with just a smaller aerator, you can keep even more of them. That aerator is moving too much water, you can see the fish getting tossed around by it. Also, the pebble things on the bottom really do nothing but add something stressful as well since these fish were bred in tanks. I put 150 into a 10 gallon tank to use as bait and they'll last a month until I use them all. Add like a tablespoon of flaked food before you put the minnows in and it'll sustain them for a long time.

I'm sure they do but keeping them as pets is quite difficult. They need lots of aeration possibly 2 depending on the tank size. I'm not quite sure of the male or female though. However, I just use them as bait so I didn't have to run to the store. Also I don't use alot, given at this time during ice fishing, possibly 20 in 1 fishing trip including my plastics.

Yes, but in a tank probably not. I have a small pond on my property, it's not even 1,000 square feet and no deeper than 4 feet. I bought 500 rosie minnows to put in it to see if I could eliminate buying minnows in the future. That was two years ago, I now have thousands of rosie's in the pond. I put my minnow trap in for twenty minutes, and I'll have 5-6 dozen to take fishing. They definitely will reproduce, but I don't know about in a tank.
