The nurseries here in California and probably the whole ornamental industry in US have been using a lot of cocofiber in making soil mixes. The coco peat which is actually the coconut dust by-product of coconut fiber extraction is not a peat in the real sense of the world to compare it with the real "peat moss" which is very expensive. Most of the coco peat commonly used here are from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, etc. In the years past, a Filipino-US trader was able to bring in Philippine coco peat until the deal was cancelled because the Filipino sales representative by-passed the trader and directly contacted the grower for the pricing to the displeasure of the latter. Kaya kayong mga Filipino businessmen ay kailangang igalang ang business protocols. Ako ay nagtatrabaho sa isang wholesale nursery dito sa Southern California kaya alam ko ang gamit ng coconut dust. Please prepare a laboratory analysis of the coco peat ready and current when prospective buyers come and request one. @JP SupahboyI have not seen coco "peat" from the Philippines being sold at the major box stores here. Most of the supplies in compacted form come from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc. Mexico, the top 8th coconut producing country in the world, exports majority of coco "peat" to the US.

Sir suggestion ko, ang coco fiber pwede sya gawing mulching sa farm kaylangan lang e expose sa weather (ulan/init) bago gamitin para maalis ang acid, pero meron naman siya mga stock na fiber sa labas ng bodega na nauulanan at naiinitan kaya pwede na yan diritso gamit as mulch. Kung malapit lang sana sir marami ako bibilhin nyan, mas maigi gamitin yan kaysa plastic mulch. E market nyo po as mulch.

What limits the use of coco peat in the nursery industry is its high salt content as most coconut palms from where they come from are grown along or near the coastal areas. Salts in the soil media are injurious to the roots of sensitive plants, cause irreversible damage and death to the tissues. The roots lose its function to absorb essential nutrients and take in air resulting to the death of the plants.

i guess, we need to solve the problem in decorticating to produce high percentage of long fiber to comply with export specification. Second is to find application for coir and peat.

i don't know but is seems some steps are missing. Usually there's another machine to separate the long and short fiber. also thin and thick fiber...
