I really love this scene. Not only is it the pivotal moment where Walter finds the courage to stop imagining and start living the adventures for real but also that it is this very sweet and personal fantasy of Cheryl that is his inspiration to change, and gives him the courage to act at that moment and do this. It's a fantastic moment that caught me by surprise. Great film.

This movie was underrated, I think because it was in a way about very average people occasionally doing something extraordinary. But this scene, something about Bowie's song and Walter choosing that moment to live his imagination just brings tears to my eyes. I am very like Walter and I hope one day to be as brave as he is. Of course the book was entirely different, but the sentiment of daydreaming is the same. Edit - thanks for your comments! This scene still lifts me up and pushing my comfort zone.

There's something so aesthetic about the song choice and the cinematography to match specific points in the song. It's like a well oiled machine, the slow buildup in the intro parallels Walter's buildup in taking charge in his life dreams, and the moment the song goes for a jump, the pacing of the scene shifts rapidly, as he jumps in the helicopter, and it's just a triumphant, fast paced scene that carries out onto the latter fast paced portion of the film. Excellent creation, one of Ben Stiller's best performances, and you can really respect him as an actor here. Kristen Wiig was a bit underused, but she her shine too. I hope this film gets the recognition it deserves at some point.

The reason why I love this scene so much is that his daydreaming helped him basically to take the leap in real life, where he wouldn't have made such a bold decision before otherwise.

This movie is a perfect example of how we, people, let truly valuable gems pass through our lives unnoticed and unappreciated. An important opportunity, a friend we didn't give the proper attention, a love we mistreated, the lyric of a song we don't bother to understand or a movie we don't appreciate because it doesn't have enough explosions. "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" can seem flavorless if one is just looking for a fun distraction for a couple of hours, but for some people... those specific people who are (or once were) in the same spot in life Walter is in this movie, it becomes a deeply touching piece of art. Walter's function is to be a mirror, so we could see our reflection and empathise. He is in a stagnation, contemplating the chances he let go in life and what he could have become but didn't, because he was too afraid and unreactive. I've been in this place, and that's why I consider "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" a masterpiece. I am NOT the emotional type of person, but this movie never fails to make me cry. It brings me back to the memories of this confined place, and raises a state of sorrow and melancholy. I can only imagine Ben Stiller knows this felling in a personal level to translate it in such a subtle and beautiful manner. But in the end, "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" delivers. The most warm message, an epiphany. Even though he is afraid, Walter takes his leap of faith, because he realizes that if he doesn't, nothing will ever change. And so must we, even if it is scary, even if we keep trying to calculate the risks. At some point we need to jump and contemplate what is there to be seen. Ben Stiller shows to us, through Walter, that the value of life is not only at the end of the race, but in the experiences we have along the way, as well. And that we need to be attentive to them when they present themselves, even if they seem small at first glance, because at some point we might even see a "ghost cat" for a split second, who knows? "Secret Life of Walter Mitty", one of my "all time favorites", a movie that I hold dear to my heart. Watch it! Watch it again under this new perspective. Allow it to turn your tears of sorrow and melancholy into tears of joy and hope, as it did to mine.

I briefly met Stuart Drysburgh, the cinemtographer of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", yesterday, and I didn't ask him about his other famous films and pilots he's worked on (The Piano, Analyze This, the pilots of Boardwalk Empire, and Sex & the City). I asked Mr. Drysburgh about "the helicopter scene." He lit up and said, "there's a whole story behind shooting that scene." He described how this moment, the moment we all love and feel when he literally jumps onto the helicopter, was really difficult to film. The moments before and after the jump weren't so difficult, but getting the actor safely jumping onto a rising helicopter, was a challenge. I loved that he smiled when I asked him about the scene.

I don't know if women know this, but you people are such a motivational force sometimes. Thanks for existing.

I loved this movie in the strangest way. It was special to me for its rawness. Sometimes the most simple things are the most beautiful.

+Mario Rock Iquique - es una tremenda escena. La subi porque cada vez que la pelicula y llego a esta escena funciona como inspiracion cuando te sientes algo, desgastado, aburrido, o desesperanzado. - - - Awesome scene, I uploaded it because every time I watch the movie and this scene appears it serves as an inspiration when you feel something tired, or bored of life, or hopeless. Good vibes.

Haven't seen the movie, but I love the look the Pendalton Ward looking fella driving the helicopter gives him. "What took you so long?" like he knew he'd come.

This movie makes me feel so many emotions. As a middle income millenial working her tlway though life - I often imagine myself in situations and wander off what if things would have been different in my life. I have seen this movie a few times now, it is just brilliantly made.

I teared up at this scene...almost a shout-out to all of us who like someone but don't have the courage to say anything. Great movie!

This scene inspires me so much. In 2019 i was hospitalized for 1month and a half, had emergency surgery, saw myself die multiple times, had an nde. Several months later, i decided to go on a road trip on my own. Went from lisbon to Dublin in 3 weeks. Went on a hike near Howth, faced the sea and cried. I never thought i'd make it through february. And yet here i was, still alive, after crossing all western europe with a backpack. I never felt so proud of myself. After 1 and half a month facing my hospital room's ceiling and death's eternity, i was facing the ocean and its own eternity. Live life fully people. It's a one shot. But it's so worth it

This film gave me a feeling that no other movie has ever given me. It's one of the hardest emotions to describe but I can say that it's beautiful when it happens. I think this movie is highly underrated because it's misinterpreted and wasn't fully appreciated.

When Walter Mitty jumped into the helicopter and into the unknown I knew he made the right decision to try even if it’s risky. I’m sure we have that feeling when doing something never done before.

This is not a movie, its life itself. Every person can imagine something, but a few live what they imagined. Perfect!

This scene is what actually introduced me to David Bowie. Got hooked on this song for quite some time, then I went out to listen to his whole discography. Just happy to have watched this and gone after this song, or else I could’ve missed one of my favourite artists ever

Being the child of immigrants, I thought my life goal was to only find money buy a house and sit in a cubicle, but as I start to try to live life the way I wanted, guilt and shame usually followed so I thought dreaming is all I could do to live life safely. I’m not dreaming anymore, I’m gonna do it, it might be scary, no one in my family have ever done anything beyond finding money to survive before. I cried in the scene when Walter said he had to find a job 2 days after his father died, marking the end of who he was.
