When I was very young going to Buckley school's bunker Was my best friend. I remember one day we went to an ice skating rink somewhere in LA to skate we weren't very good but the whole skating rink was closed except for us and when I looked up in the bleachers his stepdad Clark Gable was up there watching us..

I knew Bunker in the 60's in the Valley. One time we had a party at his parents house in Encino. He hired the Hell's Angles to bounce and keep order with sawed off pool sticks. He was a personal friend of Owsley Stanley of LSD fame and there was at least one time I went along on one of his episodes that I can't repeat here.

Great movie, and great story. The 70’s were Heaven and Hell depending on the day. For sure SoCal and Hawaii surfers had the World on a Platter and the only problem was not surviving big waves but the big temptations to find the thrills surfing gives you on dry land. The drug world is perhaps even more dangerous than Pipeline or any reef, if you don’t know how to pull out in time.

Because most of us aren't surfers! I just got here through a complicated route, starting with a video about Gable's unacknowledged daughter by Loretta Young, then a lot of this and that until seeing something about Bunker Spreckels being a stepson...you know how that goes. This looks good!

A good example of the third generation waste. I've know three people like that--the old man made the money and established the business, his son pretty much followed in his footsteps, but the third generation grandson turned out to be a total waste and died young. It puts the truth to the saying that "If you remember the 60's, you weren't there; if you remember the 70's, you're not here".
