In the beginning, when Bunny looks in the mirror and then asks, "What Bunny?" and "What Mom?" could she be asking why the two of you look different? I may be reading too much into this, but it looked to me like her "I may be adopted" moment.
@tenshimoon
@tenshimoon 3 жыл бұрын
I think that's definitely a possibility too! Like she's wondering why neither of them look like they belong to the same species (but in her level of understanding, just why they look so different)
@sockajocka

Yes!! I wonder if she thinks she's human and wonders why she looks different than her Momma.♥️ I've had dogs that I swear they thought they were human. Listened intently. The two I got now only hear cue words, or just don't care what I'm saying to them!😅

Maybe shes asking what to call them? She sees somthing and probably knows associated with her, but probably can't figure out to what extent. Imagine seeing your doppelganger, she probably thinks the reflection is alive but it can't be herself. So what do you call it? "Who, bunny" and "who, mom" they are bunny and mom but you cant call them that because bunny and mom already exist. why/how can a reflection exist? This must be so confusing to her.

Although dogs dont really have a concept of “species” (or at least i dont think they do). The mother and siblings likely have some level of understanding that they look similar, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they expect to encounter any other similar looking dogs or that they even consider similar looking dogs to be similar to them.

If you understand dog behaviour you’d know that most dogs don’t like hugs. Hugs don’t mean the same to us as they do to them. There are other ways to show affection to dogs in a way they understand. Ppl need to stop anthropomorphize dogs. They are not children. Just cause we can get them up to (sorta) use our words to convey their wants and needs, does not mean they are capable of abstract thoughts and understanding of complex emotions and ideas. Now, with that said, I’d like to see if Bunny can pass the mirror test for self-awareness.
@crossXFaed
@crossXFaed 3 жыл бұрын
@@GoBooYourself Well let's leave that up to Bunny and her owner to decide that. I don't think it's quite fair to speak for all dogs whether they like hugs or not, recognize emotions or not. Some do, some don't. I've seen many dogs who are more than fine with hugs from their humans. As for understanding complex emotions, again I think we should leave that to each dog and their respective owners to decide. Dogs can sense and recognize different emotions, that's why they're favorite support animals. Maybe not exactly the same as humans do, but they can recognize emotions and associate some kind of meaning to a few gestures in varying degrees. You make a good point, but I don't see it as one size fits all. Humans and dogs bonded over generations because of both their differences but also because of some social relatability.

Ephesians‬ ‭6:10‭-‬18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.❤❤

@@AuntBibby Cats can be very extroverted. Very social. I have 2 cats who both really love other cats as well as people. The thing that most people don't understand about cats is that they naturally live in colonies, where females will help their sisters raise kittens, and where they go out to hunt by themselves. The hunting part is solitary, but they are social. Cats are also very plastic - how they grow up shapes what is 'normal' to them, so if you give them lots of affection and hold them a lot as kittens, they will grow up wanting that. If you leave a kitten alone as it grows up, it will think that is normal, and not want anything to do with you.

@burnttoast111
@burnttoast111 3 жыл бұрын
Visually, if you see Bunny in the mirror from the camera, that means generally Bunny can see the person holding the camera in the mirror. Bunny might also be able to see herself in the mirror at the same time, too. I have cats, and I have seen them look at me off of large mirrors, when they can't see me directly, and even look at themselves or me off of reflections on tinted glass. Conceptually it seems like it would be easier for them to understand they are looking at a reflection of someone else in a mirror than themselves, or maybe it isn't so different. It would be really interesting to really get to the point where we could clearly understand what is going on in their heads, but the slow progress in that direction is interesting in the meantime.

I mean, that is kinda the point of the block function, to some degree. "I don't like this, please don't show it to me." It's just that we almost exclusively block toxic people that being blocked carries that implication. Though I agree about not relating, though I can kind of see why it would freak your roommate out. We do have a habit of not thinking of animals as intelligent and though I wouldn't say Bunny hits that notion with a sledgehammer, it certainly does challenge it.

@maxk5065

@Phyre i'd say because you are biologically wired for speech (especially grammar) while the dog isn't, even great apes can comunicate with sign language or pictograms but don't get grammar properly, it's a really hard stuff to get. they can say "me like banana" but something like "i would love to have some banana" is kinda impossible, they can never get past the "tarzan state" as i call it, it's already amazing and you can understand a lot already but you can't have full explanation or completely share a concept with someone like we're doing. for now this a a human specificity (one of the last as we discovered some toolmakers by the handfull) in my neuropsy's point of view he will never understand the concept of a mirror (at least he isn't showing it now and no dog ever did so he would be the first ever [but he could be, the fucker got so many words, i'm already amazed, if a dog did understand mirror, it would be one like that]). i think the bigger problem with mirror is that it include the concept of "yourself" witch is such a part of us that we don't realise we human too didn't have it at birth, small child don't pass the mirror test too. i'm also wondering how much she get the concept of those words too, especially concept words like "love you" "why" "?", i don't think she gets the whole idea but it's still very impressive.

@@tenshimoon It seems to be a matter of convenience to justify various terrible actions. Humans also do this to other humans. Charles Darwin wrote about how Captain Fitzroy of the HMS Beagle took him to see Fitzroy's friend on some South American (?) plantation. The plantation owner wanted to demonstrate how slavery was a good thing, so he summoned one of his slaves and asked them 'would you rather be free or a slave?', to which the slave replied that they would rather be a slave. Darwin correctly pointed out that a slave would lie to avoid being punished for saying what the owner didn't want to hear. To be clear, Darwin was racist, but at least he didn't think slavery was justifiable.

@@burnttoast111 i agree, sadly our history is littered with people trying to justify all sorts of evils/atrocities. Oh cool I've never heard/read that story before, and I think that's the most likely reason why the slave said that. Being brainwashed & groomed could be another reason which could be the 2nd most likely probability, and only the *tiniest* sliver of a probability that the slave owner was as "benevolent" a slave owner as was possible back then, but even then that's an astronomical stretch of the imagination (I've only ever heard of willing/consensual "slavery" in role-play & fringe kink communities buuuut now I'm beginning to digress with that mention 😅).

The parrot didn't think it was that big a deal and the cat did that blink thing they do when they love you. Non-human animals are sentient. Maybe "why" is for her a general question, like "upstairs" means anything higher than the floor. In context with "mommy" and "daddy" it could be either "why do I look different" or "why am I with mommy and daddy.", or even "why do I, mommy and daddy exist at all?" At first thought "why" seemed too difficult a concept for an animal, but they do understand that conditions/actions affect outcomes. If they understand conditions/actions affecting outcomes, then "Why do I exist" is in fact one of the simplest questions possible, even though the answer is not.

I'm thinking along the lines of not only would the (pet) parent need to learn/know this other language and then keep up with the new language (I've heard/read/seen that the best way to have bilingual children is to have at least one parent model either language - or have something like French at home and English in public (for example). I wonder if that would be needed in a case like using this? (Then again children who cannot speak yet are taught 'baby signs' (or have picture boards or tactile _buttons_ ;-) )sometimes to get their points across when they don't have the words to vocalize it... )

This demonstrates the incredible level of knowledge and understanding that dogs have. Bunny is no different from other dogs in terms of her thinking behaviours, the difference is she has been given the tools and means to articulate and vocalise her thoughts and needs so that we, humans, understand them through spoken words. I have never understood why humans ever want to deliberately cause animals, any animals, any sort of pain and suffering. All animals process and understand what is happening to them when they are being harmed by humans - Bunny is helping to show us the level of understanding and reasoning that dogs and other animals have. 🧡

As I kid I've never ever would have dreamed of seeing a dog maintaining better conversations than a toddler. I'd love to watch a Ted talk on this subject, or that further research was made because this is absolutely mesmerizing. We are prone to think so little of animals and their capacity of communication, cows love music, dogs can talk and elephants can recall events that happened years ago. I wonder where would human species be today if we weren't so greedy, selfish, and didn't think so highly of ourselves. We belive we re the superior species when we aren't even making much effort to understand the lives round us. We need more people like u mom/human (I am really new to this channel I wish I knew Bunny's mom and dad names lol)

She doesn't know the dog is her because she can't smell herself. Dogs rely on smell to perceive the world more than sight. And the reflection of her does not have a scent. I think I've heard it said that dogs don't recognize their reflections as their image. Or maybe some of them do and some of them don't and cats never do? In any case, I've had people say that has pretty big implications for the psyche of these various species. My cousin works with dogs and she was telling me recently how she's been having video chats with dogs and when she does, most of them act pretty flummoxed by the whole concept - according to her, it seems the image of a person in the absence of a smell of a person is very confusing for them. I've wondered quite some time if this has ramifications for what a reflection is to an animal like a dog, whose perspective is far more olfactorily-oriented - humans have a particularly visually-oriented perspective, and the human perspective puts very little emphasis on smell, especially for mammals. I wonder if it's possible a pure visual reflection doesn't constitute as proper enough replication of oneself to come across as an "other me" to a different kind of animal. I've often heard it implied that if an animal doesn't recognize its reflection as itself, it probably doesn't have any concept of self. I've often questioned this, as it seems pretty easy as humans to take the highly visually-oriented human perspective for granted, and a visually-oriented test for self-awareness seems to very easily be a symptom of that.

I have thought the same thing. I don't feel it means anything if an animal doesn't recognize itself in a mirror. Their eyes are different. Also like you say their vision is not as important to a dog as their sense of smell. Maybe some animals recognize they are in the mirror but they don't care about it. If you tried to train an animal to do something and it never seemed to learn, that wouldn't automatically mean that it was stupid. Maybe it just doesn't have any drive to please a human.

A couple of ideas: 1) To model "what love is", engage in an activity which emphasises calm intimacy, such as gentle petting with eye contact. 2) It may be useful to create the word "Other" for her. This might enable Bunny to create/express categories of objects (e.g. "Ball" and "Other Ball"). You may then be able to describe her reflection as "Other Bunny", and see if she understands.

If you are going to go as far as to create a way for her to communicate using human language, be prepared for the questions, and be prepared to answer them. Don't give up now!! Once we understand that animals are intelligent and possess the capability of reason, it suddenly becomes harder to justify our being cruel to them, or at least dismissive of them.
