A PRIME EXAMPLE OF JUST HOW GREAT BUNNY WAILER IS AND ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD. THE OLD DRAGON. Old Dragon is not a Wailers' song, but rather a solo effort from Bunny Wailer, one of the three original Wailers, after he left the band. It originally appeared on an album called Struggle recorded in Jamaica 1978-79. What is most unusual about The Old Dragon is Bunny chose to open EVERY LIVE SHOW with this song and it is a song about THE DEVIL. "Now this is the history of one whose beginning was not in the womb/ Nor whose ending in the grave/ LUCIFER, THE OLD DRAGON." Imagine hearing Bunny live and this magnificent song opens the show. The question most people ask next is "Why would this beautiful, spiritual man choose a song about the devil to open each concert?" Bunny has stated it is better to acknowledge the devil and give him his due right up frontrather than pretend he doesn't exist and have him sneak up on you later and cause considerable harm. I theorized (and it's nothing more than that) Bunny might have conceived the idea of beginning every show with a song about the devil from an incident that occurred during a live Wailers show in late 1964. A power failure hit the area and the room was plunged into blackness. Patrons started throwing bottles, smashing chairs and stage equipment and a riot ensued. The musicians hid in a bathroom backstage. This terrifying event provided the inspiration for some Wailers songs like Jumbie Jamboree. The word "jumbie" means ghost, or "duppy" And if a person is called a "duppy" it means he has no soul or feelings. So I'm just thinking if this event unleashed such awful negative vibes, perhaps Bunny thought it's better to acknowledge the cause of all this darkness right at the outset. Anyway, it's just an idea. What's important is this stunningly beautiful song. I was fortunate to see Bunny on his first visit to America at Radio City Music Hall here in New York City. Third row, the closest I've ever sat for a reggae show. Bunny has a rare talent of being strong and forceful and delicate at the same time. When he started the show with this magnificent song, it was absolute heaven to be there. God, this is an amazing song. I urge everyone to hear it. Your totally correct...... There are alot of tracks from Bunny that I haven't heard myself. I tried throughout the years to check different platforms for Bunny Wailer tracks and it was no surprise that I wouldn't find much. Unfortunately ,it took him to pass away for someone like me to listen to all what Bunny has to offer song wise and track wise? While he was alive, he was the one setting his own prices on Ebay? Were talking like $600 for his Lp,s? Bunny Wailer has many many great tracks and albums but you needed to be lucky just to find the gem? Since Bunny himself was setting his own prices on eBay I couldn't afford his gems? But now it's different since his passing? Bunny didn't like sharing his music? Certain albums and or 10in 7in vinyl were always difficult to find? I understand though, as an artist your not wanting tom, dick, and jane to easily find and listen to an artist for free? So, while alive he would throw bits and pieces of his music knowing that most of his better music isn't easy to find? I tried very hard and for many years to get closer and closer to Bunny Wailer tracks on vinyl but never succeed, Until his passing? I was always so curious why his prices were so high for his music? I definitely want to hear the whole album of who ever artist before I shell out $500 or $600 for the album? The man can sing? Many tracks I'm in the process of getting my hands on, and many tracks I've never heard too? Truth
