Undertaker’s Streak ending at WrestleMania 30 was the first time I’ve ever seen a crowd go completely silent. That shows how important the streak was and still is to this day

No that wasn't career ending! That was ECW at its finest! And the Sandman was one of the most Extreme wrestler period! That's how it was during their time...

I have to say that with Ambrose turning on Seth on that night... I have so much trouble explaining why that was a bad move for Creative and WWE in general, because it feels too _obvious_ that it is! There can be a fuzzy line between good heat and turn-off-the-TV heat, but this was so obviously over the line that I can't figure out why anyone would think it's not. This is the time where I want to say, "Vince, _everyone knows wrestling is predetermined_ by now. So when you do something real and then do something to subvert the feeling of the real thing, you're doing nothing but pissing off the fans." I say Vince because it was mainly him insisting that this would be good heat.

14:09 Believe it or not, audience riots were very much a thing back in the earlier days of wrestling (aka the "territory days"). This was before televised wrestling was widespread, so audiences back then were less aware of the sport's scripted nature. That meant when heels got heat, they *REALLY* got heat.... like "pissed fans rushing the ring and getting arrested for it" heat. And if that could happen at smaller arenas in the rural south, imagine how much more chaotic a riot in one the size of MSG could get.... yeah. 😅 Anyway, controversial as he may be, Jim Cornett has a bunch of fascinating stories about that period of wrestling history (some of which he was personally involved in), so I'd still recommend checking out his channel at least once if you get the chance. 😉

You're absolutely right! The intensity of those audience reactions back in the territory days was something else.

@@Bunnymon I agree with marvelbliss. Cornette's Mid-South stories are a trip. I also recommend looking up the Ox Baker/Ernie Ladd riot from Cleveland, Ohio 1971; the ECW Staten Island riot; the 1997 WWF house show riot; and the Dudley Boyz incident at ECW's 1999 Heatwave show.

I never liked Bob Backlaund in the 90's, had him act like he wasn't right in the head. He was much better in the 70's. Bob and Bret match could've been so much better.

I remember one moment when Jojo Offerman ( Widow of Bray Wyatt ) was suggested to be a wrestler, she appeared in her first match where she just stood in a corner while her team did the wrestling job, in her second match the crowd wanted to see if she was capable of wrestling, the crowd kept chanting "We want Jojo! We want Jojo!", she was not supposed to enter the match, just stay in the corner, in the ring there were fighting Brie Bella ( her team mate ) against Tamina the strong villain, the chants continued and Jojo extended her hand with a determined attitude in her eyes, she wanted in, she wanted to please the crowd, the crowd went silent... we didn't really wanted a small fragile girl to take on Tamina, a hugely strong experienced wrestler, and Jojo this little skinny inexperienced girl, we regretted chanting "We want JoJo", Brie and Tamina paused and look at her for a moment with her extended arm that she wanted in, Brie hesitantly give her the hand, Tamina toyed around with her, throwing her to corners, Jojo got up on the third rope and jumped on Tamina, Tamina catch her easily and lift her up, Jojo slipped from the grasp of Tamina, slide down behind her, grab her and drop her to the mat, "1! 2!" and she almost pinned Tamina, Tamina got up and another change of wrestlers happened, but what happened with Jojo was memorable, I think Jojo never wrestle again.

Bunny, Austin never actually hurt anyone in the ring. He was a consummate professional. If you watch him hitting Lita again, notice how he's pulling the shots in such a way that it makes a "sickening sound", but she was never in any real danger. Especially when he used the edge of the chair. He pulled the shots to where they barely tapped her. Also, Bob Backlund had been a WWWF Champion back in the 1970s (when Vince's father still owned the company). He was the ultimate "Babyface" back then. It wasn't until the "New Generation" era that he turned Heel and won the title from Bret. That did two things: Set up Bret vs Owen, and allowed Diesel (Kevin Nash) to win the title from him a week or two later. Don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I became a fan of the WWWF back in 1970. I was barely 3 years old at the time. My family put it on every Saturday evening, and I got hooked. The first Champion I remember was Pedro Morales, another Babyface after Bruno decided to take some time off. 12:30 - After that match, Taker was taken to the hospital, with his wife Michele McCool riding along with him. Right behind them was a limo carrying both Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar. Taker was admitted and stayed overnight. Doctors kept asking him questions, the answers he tried to pry out of his wife, but she wasn't having it. It wasn't until later the following afternoon that he was cleared to leave the hospital. 13:40 - It was a combination of things (from what I have heard). The "grind" back then, a few injuries, and basically wanting "time off" to be with his family. It was a VERY different time, especially for Wrestling. But I can tell you something, when Bruno lost that title to Koloff.... OMG!

Austin did actually hurt someone, it's just not talked about... 1992 i believe it was, he botched a tombstone piledriver and "seriously injured" someone who had to completely alter how they wrestled for the remainder of their career... you have to actually search to find details, but it is out there.. i'd get the exact details, but i need to get ready for work.

The crowd shld have expected that Brock wld end the undertaker's streak at Mania. Heyman had repeatedly told everyone before the match that Brock wld be the 1 in 21 -1 and even mention that it was not a prediction but a spoiler. Hence telling everyone what was gonna happen.

I honestly wish The Streak hadn't ever been a thing. Undefeated streaks arent worth it because the longer they go the the more matches become foregone conclusions and when they do end its usually not in a satisfying manner.
@ItApproaches
@ItApproaches 19 күн бұрын
Maybe so, but it become an HONOR to be like I get to have a match at Mania against the UNDERTAKER???!!! That itself is bigger deal and a more exclusive list then just having a title shot at mania. Even knowing you're going to lose to Taker, I'd still rather put on a legendary match that gets remembered cause you got to got toe to tow at Mania and be part of the streak! Then just oh yeah, won a belt at mania, like hundreds have before.

the irony of the 'crucifying' incident.. wwe (or wwf) did it later as well, while not exactly the same, they had austin on an undertaker symbol, which no, it's not a cross exactly, but pretty close, and austin was in the very same pose, and very little was said about it.. i believe it was censored somewhere, might even be off peacock now, not sure, i don't remember exactly what show it was.
