Years ago (mid 1970s), I remember sitting in on a conversation with my college trombone instructor and one of his former students (one of my colleagues) about judging how good a trombone is by "how well it plays out of tune" in the partials (among other things). The trombone in question was the King 4B and whether or not it would be the horn for his Bette Midler world tour. Best I remember, he went with the 4B.

How is the ergonomics on the Yamaha? Does the trigger position move when you adjust the tuning slide?
@AidanRitchie3 күн бұрын
The ergonomics are actually quite good, strangely. The thumb ring also adjusts, so if you move the tuning slide you can move the thumb ring the same amount and the feel will not change.

The King Silver Sonic would be an interesting Baby Bass with a second valve and a bigger bore slide. However, I cringe at the thought of taking a Vintage King and cutting it up for parts. Ouch!! The Bach 50 B might be a better choice for an extra valve project.

If it were a vintage king worth anything, I would have more qualms about it... but no one wants these 148Xs anymore.

Thanks for the video! Do dual bore slides also affect valve register in your experience? I have a dual bore tenor and the valve it's sooo low

Which dual bore on tenor? A large one could make the horn just need more air and you may be underfunding.
